Our trip over all was fairly disappointing. The hotel in Giza was clean and staff were friendly. We were advised that there was take away food for meals as not really any restaurants nearby. The importance of purchasing an Egyptian sim should be highlighted in the guidance of the tour as this was essential for communication with the guides and any independent travel, you can’t rely on free wifi. Our guide and tours to the pyramids were brilliant. We transferred to Aswan for the cruise to join a small group for the rest of our tour by sleeper train and for us this was by far the worst part of the trip. The train cabin was dirty and the travel was very noisy and extremely bumpy. We decided not to use the train for our return trip and thank goodness I had the sim as I was able to book additional accommodation and flights. We arrived at Aswan exhausted to find that we were unable to check in and freshen up as the rooms were not available, we subsequently found out that our cruise programme had been changed due to problems with the bookings. The sailing date had been put back which negatively impacted on the itinerary. The boat was clean, food good, staff friendly. On our final day, we docked at Luxor at around 1 am with another boat next to us at 2 am, needless to say we didn’t get much sleep. This would not have happened if we had kept to the original sailing times. We started at final day at 6:45 as the guide managed to get us an early breakfast on the boat instead of a packed one. The day started with Edfu then a 2 hour drive to the East and West Banks. All in all we did 5 tours and finished at our hotel around 9pm. We struggled to get time for lunch and the whole day just became a blur with the group became despondent with exhaustion causing some friction with each other and the guide. So much so I was glad the day was over. All guides and drivers did a brilliant job however the final day unfortunately marred our trip.Show more

After reading your review , we can see that you main issue is the sleeper train which is only one sleeper train company around Egypt , no company have a choice for it , we only can upgrade the train to be 1 hour flight each way for extra cost which you didn't choose for going or return , for all the tour detail it is already as mentioned in the itinerary and as our operator explained for you day by day when you arrived , otherwise no way to visit Aswan , Kom Ombo , Edful , Luxie and Abu simbel in 4 days , it is very classic Nile cruise itinerary in Egypt , It was a pleasure showing you around.” Stay Safe :), Egypt Best Holidays Team

Overall I was very happy with this tour. It covered all the major sites I wanted to see and I was able to add on Abu Simbel as well. It was fast paced and you don’t always have a lot of time - I really wanted to see as much as possible, so that suited me but could be too much if you want to have time to relax and explore. I had expected to be travelling with the same guide and group of people for the entire trip but it was more a mix and match. I understand that it all depends on who books the same trip for your exact dates etc. it meant a had a different guide almost every day. Similar to other comments here I would have preferred a more detailed itinerary to be given to me with dates, times, guides etc for every day (for example I only realised we had skipped the unfinished obelisk on my tour in Aswan when I looked at the handwritten notes later that day). Peter did provide an overview on my first day but I usually didn’t have the guide’s names for each day until I met them for my tour. Occasionally I got a text the night before to let me know who would be picking me up. Not a huge issue but I still would have liked a bit more information just for peace of mind. I hadn’t thought about getting an Egyptian SIM card thinking I would be with the same guide for the whole trip. As a result I didn’t have WIFI unless I was at the hotel. That proved a bit difficult as all communication with Peter and the different guides was via WhatsApp and I was often offline. The drivers were all reliable and did a good job. Special shout-out to Islam in crazy Cairo who did my airport transfers and also drove me around there for most of my time, great driver who knows Cairo & Giza well and is super friendly. The guides were of varied quality, some were great and others told you more or less what was written on the signs - I saw other guides pointing out a lot more detail in some temples. Saying that I really enjoyed Sam’s tour in Edfu, Michael in Aswan and Hany’s knowledge about Luxor and The Valley of the kings. Do yourself a favour and book the hot air balloon ride - incredible and well organised. We were up there for more than an hour and it was a definite highlight of my trip. The cruise ship was also very enjoyable (I was on the blue shadow 3, though not in an upper deck room as listed in the tour description), they offered amazing food though I would have loved more Egyptian fare, the buffet mostly had dishes catering for a European crowd. Drinks were extra but inexpensive (for a cruise) and staff were excellent and very helpful. Be aware that tour guides will take you to shops where they’ll get commission if you buy something - think carpet factory, jewellery, perfume, alabaster and papyrus. It’s not a hard sell though so it’s ok not to buy anything and just sip your hibiscus juice. Abu Simbel was spectacular but note that you will spend 8 hours on the bus for the return trip and we had approximately 2 hours onsite which felt like nothing as it was super busy and we had to queue for 20 minutes to even get into the temple, plus getting tickets etc. Buying the tickets at every site can take a chunk of your time away, especially if your guide doesn’t buy them for the whole group. Not all ticket counters take credit card so be prepared to have cash. I changed my hotel for the last night in Cairo to be more centrally located - Peter helped to arrange this - the hotel in Giza is quite far from Cairo and I preferred being closer to the centre for my own exploring. I took the metro (very easy) and spent my free day exploring places I hadn’t been to on the city tour. I enjoyed the sleeper train journeys but it is pretty basic and both my trains were quite old. The blanket and linen were clean and totally fine. There’s no towel but a small wash basin. Food is pretty bad but edible - I’m vegetarian and got the same as everyone else just without the meat box (think airline food). Yes, it’s noisy and jerky but I slept really well actually. Unfortunately you might get smoke coming in from the club car which was pretty bad on the trip down to Assuan. It wasn’t all perfect but I saw so much in the short time I had. I’m not usually a tour person and prefer my own exploring and sightseeing but this was a good option as a solo traveller with limited time.Show more
