Itinerary
- Day 1
Salta
Your transfer will pick you up by 3:00 pm and take you to your hotel in Salta. After settling in, you'll head out to explore the historic center on foot, walking past the Salta Cathedral and the Church of San Francisco before stopping at Plaza 9 de Julio. Later you'll climb up Cerro San Bernardo for views across the city, and if you have time before dinner, the nearby village of San Lorenzo is close enough for a quick visit to see its colonial architecture and quiet streets.

- Day 2
Salta to Cachi
This is a full day of driving through changing landscapes. You'll start by crossing the Lerma Valley where tobacco fields and small colonial villages come into view, then the road takes you into the Quebrada de Escoipe where subtropical plants start appearing. The winding Cuesta del Obispo comes next with panoramic views at every turn, and you'll reach Piedra del Molino at 3,348 meters/10,997 feet. After that you'll drive through Los Cardones National Park along the ancient Recta de Tin-Tin trail, arriving in Cachi with mountain views. You'll have free time to walk around the village and explore at your own pace.

- Day 3
Cachi to Cafayate
Route 40 takes you through dramatic Andean terrain with steep cliffs and deep valleys alongside the Calchaquí River. Along the way you'll stop in Seclantás to see how local weavers work with traditional textiles, then continue to historic Molinos with its colonial character. The landscape gets more surreal as you pass through the Quebrada de las Flechas via San Carlos and Animanía before reaching Cafayate, where the town's reputation for Torrontés wine and its vineyards become obvious. You'll have free time in the evening to walk around town or grab dinner at one of the local restaurants.

- Day 4
Cafayate to Salta
You'll visit both small artisanal wineries and larger industrial operations to taste Cafayate's award-winning Torrontés and other regional wines. After grabbing lunch in town, the drive back to Salta takes you through the Quebrada de las Conchas and back across the Lerma Valley, retracing part of your earlier route but with different perspectives along the way.

- Day 5
Salta to Purmamarca
Starting from Campo Quijano, you'll follow old train tracks on a climbing journey that passes the Garganta del Toro canyon and the pre-Inca Santa Rosa de Tastil ruins. The road showcases impressive engineering with bridges, viaducts, and abandoned stations as you gain elevation to 4,080 meters/13,386 feet. After lunch, you'll cross Route 40 toward Salinas Grandes on the Salta-Jujuy border, then descend via the Cuesta de Lipán to reach Purmamarca and its colorful Cerro de los Siete Colores.

- Day 6
Purmamarca to Salta
This UNESCO World Heritage route through the Quebrada takes you through striking colored hills and settlements with deep local traditions. You'll start at Purmamarca with the Cerro de los Siete Colores, then visit the historic Posta de Hornillos and the village of Tilcara. At Huacalera you'll cross the Tropic of Capricorn line, and the Church of Uquia comes next, where you'll see the famous Arquebusier Angels paintings from the Cuzco School. Humahuaca has its cathedral and Monument to Independence, and after lunch you'll drive back past Maimara's Painter's Palette rock formation before heading south to Salta.

Salta Departure
You'll take your time at the hotel this morning over breakfast, then maybe walk through Salta's streets one more time or just relax and take in the city atmosphere. Later your private transfer will arrive to take you to the airport, giving you time to think back on everything you've seen from the colored hills to the mountain passes and local villages across northern Argentina.
