Itinerary
- Day 1
Oudenburg
You'll start your cycling journey by heading out on a 25 km ride along Belgium's oldest canal, which connects Bruges and Gent toward the North Sea. The route takes you through flat farmland and along waterways before you arrive in Oudenburg. Once there, you can walk through the historic market square and check out the Roman Archaeological Museum to get a sense of the region's ancient past.

Diksmuide
This morning you'll bike from Plassendale toward Nieuwpoort, following the canal where the Yser River eventually meets the North Sea. After that, you'll take a converted railroad path to Diksmuide, passing several WWI historical sites along the way. Later in the day you can visit the Trenches of Death and the Yser Tower, both important memorials from the Belgian army's efforts during the war.

Ypres
You'll continue cycling along the Yser and canal, moving past numerous WWI battlefields and memorials near Ypres. The historic town center waits for you there, with the Grote Markt serving as the main square. Before evening, head to the In Flanders Fields Museum, and if timing works out, you can be there for the Last Post ceremony at Menen Gate, a memorial arch inscribed with the names of 55,000 soldiers.

Veurne
Today's ride takes you to Poperinge, where you can tour the Lemahieu hop farm and the Abbey of St. Sixtus, the place where Trappist monks produce the famous Westvleteren beer. From there, your bike route continues through Lo, where you'll see the beautiful Belfort tower. By late afternoon you'll reach Veurne, a medieval town where you can explore the Grote Markt and wander through the historic center.

Nieuwpoort
Starting early, you'll cycle through the De Moeren nature reserve heading toward Dunkirk in France. The morning ride gets you to the harbor by afternoon, and then you'll bike back toward Zuydcoote before heading along the French and Belgian beaches toward Nieuwpoort. There you'll find memorials related to the WWII evacuation that happened in 1940, a significant moment in the region's history.

Oudenburg
You'll start from Nieuwpoort and bike along the Ganzenpoot, a spot where five different waterways meet. Then you'll follow the Coastal Cycle Route between the beach resorts De Panne and Oostende. From there, you'll cross the Yser River mouth by ferry, and after that, bike along the North Sea beach and through the dunes before heading back to Oudenburg.

Bruges
This day is a relaxed cycling tour through the northern Flemish farmland, where you'll see Belgian White-Blue cattle grazing and barley fields stretching across the landscape. You'll cross into the Netherlands to visit Sluis, a small medieval fortified town in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The ride continues from there, and by evening you'll roll into Bruges.

Your tour wraps up after breakfast in Bruges, known as the Venice of the North. You'll have time to relax before heading out or can take a final stroll through the medieval streets if you'd like, but the main cycling portion of your journey ends here.
