Can we still be picked up at 2am at CAI airport and be escorted to the hotel?

Will land hotels and the cruise ship cabins have power outlets to use a small appliance (mini rice cooker for senior citizen)?

He's fantastic, very knowledgeable and passionate about telling the history of the Pyramids and the GEM. Yes it was a long day, but well woth it! Ashraf stayed with us during the entire cruise, and he was just amazing, kind, patient, personable and knowledgeable. He's one of the best tour guids we had in our last 10 trips all over different continents. We liked having the same tour guide for multiple days, it makes it personalized and help the group feel more comfortable with the guide. Also we had a security guard with us most of the time made us feel a lot safer. The only downfall was the wifi on the boat, it never really works, but it didn't bother us much.Show more

At half-price during the Summer season, this tour was good value and is recommended. (worth noting: even at 43 degrees c the heat was rarely a concern). The overall organisation and communications were good, the local guides were uniformly excellent, the pacing was good and the quality of the boat was also good. Domestic flight bookings were well organised, travel through airports and the flights themselves were smooth. The sites in Egypt were remarkable and generally very clean, safe, well-cared for and totally worth visiting (the requisite visits to the papyrus, alabaster and fragrance shops were less worthwhile, but they never uncomfortably pressured one to buy items). We do have some critical reflections to share: The Gewan hotel was tired and is apparently slated for a refresh very soon -- but it did have an astonishingly good and diverse breakfast on offer, and great staff. The food on the boat could have been better, being particularly short of vegetarian options and (inexplicably) Egyptian dishes. While the tips and entrance fees were not included in the cost of the tour, at the outset of the tour on the first day at the hotel, the coordinator sat us down and told us the amounts to pay and we paid in full up front for these. The optional excursions were also nearly universally chosen by members of our tour (the logic of going to Egypt and then NOT doing them just doesn't hold), so it felt like the basic tour pricing was low-balled and there were a lot of add-on costs. In terms of the overall tour value, the cost was not really the issue (at half-price), but the way the total cost was reached felt extractive along the way (including on the boat, where any drinks beyond one 500mL water per day per person was charged for). We were not able to do the hot air balloon over the Valley of the Kings (though advertised as part of the itinerary) due to the government halting that activity for a few months, so it was beyond the tour organiser's control, but we were not informed until after arrival, which was a disappointing way to kick things off. Overall, these criticisms don't undermine the travel experience or make this not a worthwhile tour -- there is just room for improvement and travellers should know what to expect.Show more
