Short pants are fine for daytime comfort. - Warm layers for the evenings such as a light windbreaker, sweatshirt/fleece, and long pants, as desert temperatures can drop quite a bit after sunset, even if it's warm during the day. The Canyonlands region is stunning but very much "desert style" weather, warm to hot days and cooler nights, so layering is the best way to stay comfortable throughout the day.
