Looking at staying 4 days and 3 night stay in Istanbul. This is for a birthday trip for my mother who is 70 years old and wouldn't be able to walk a lot. If we were to book the group tour is there a lot of walking involved or is it best to book a private tour? Also, with regards to accommodation are you able to confirm where we would be staying please?

Our City of Sultans trip is a private tour - our shorter city tours are all private options. Superior City of Sultans tour is £585pp. We frequently use Ramada Old City and Kent Hotel in Istanbul. Both are 4 Star Hotels with modern amenities and great locations near major monuments and the Grand Bazaar.

Does the twin share have 2 beds? What hotel? My mother is over 70, is that an issue?

We can definitely book a twin room with 2 separate beds. We normally use Ramada Old City or Kent Hotel. There is no problem for people over 70 to travel on this tour but all passengers over 70 needs to complete our tour suitability form.

I was not impressed, however, with the request once the tour had commenced for participants to pay a specified cash amount in Euros. The machinations behind that are startlingly obvious. Suggestion: shift this from the small print and be more explicit about costings. The second criticism relates to marketing. For all intents and purposes, it was an eight day tour. There were fabulous highlights but also serious disappointments on our tour. Definitely some improvements could be made. Firstly the demand for cash payments is inexcusable in this day and age. The cash payment requirement raised concerns for us . We felt the explanation provided did not align with our experience during the tour as the tour used a credit card for all but the caravanseri. The documentation referred only to payment in euros. Euro is a currency. Cash is a form of payment. It was horrendously expensive to have to convert the inflated amount to cash and this needs addressing urgently. Soured the whole experience. The hotels were only just okay and certainly not the advertised 4star. The food at the Cappadocia hotel was abysmal. Inedible, in fact. But the itenerary and the sights were fabulous and we loved the country and the places we visited. Our guide Gurkan had a great sense of humour and was always very cheerful. The bus was very comfortable and we were thankful for the charge points wifi and water provided.Show more

Payment information
- For any tour departing before August 31st, 2026 a full payment is necessary. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 70 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
