This was my 7th, and my least favorite Intrepid adventure tour. I've been to Guatemala before, traveling solo, and advise you to go there several days early, so you can, at the very least, book outings to lake Atitlan, hike the Pacayo volcano and may be even fly out to Tikal and back. What seemed to be lacking on this trip was the cultural experiences Intrepid is usually so good at. Activities at each destination required a minimum number of participants, which often was not met since they were over priced for the area. $45 hot springs in Honduras, on par with Icelandic Blue Lagoon entrance fee, $65 zip lining in Costa Rica..etc. So most of the time you end up in the town square eating rice and beans and drinking cervezas and swatting flies. I did like visiting Topan in Honduras, but you're basically only there two half days. Our itinerary included Nicaragua, which was touted as the highlight of the trip by our guide Dennis. That was changed at the last minute because of civil unrest there. Itinerary change was sudden, and Intrepid was scrambling, even though the unrest was already going on for two months. We spent extra two nights in San Jose. Costa Rica is the most over rated country in Central America, aside from a couple of museums and a theater there's nothing to do in San Jose, unless you want the 3 hour $70 micro brew tour. The rest of CR you'll end up rubbing shoulders with a ton of tourists who are there to zip line, to raft, and to walk the mostly paved paths in the "jungle", and hanging bridges to look for the elusive sloths, with another tourist group following closely behind stopping at your heals. Costa Rica is expensive, it's like a fine tuned tourist trap with Pura Vida slogan advertisement.

    2.0 - Rather poor

Substandard accomodation ie dirty rooms, unwashed bedding, water leaks and blocked toilets ( unusable, had to go outside to use another toilet!). Unventilated rooms with no windoww, no fan or AC. Poor transportation, public buses, and long travel times.

Amazing trip! Saw so much and really got to experience the diversity of Central America. So many opportunities to interact with the local cultures, try local food, and get your fill of indigenous wildlife. Do this trip, you won't regret it!

Good, low cost tour that included destinations of historical significance and destinations with fun leisure and recreational activities. The pace of travel was a little exhausting at times with much time spent on buses or boats as we moved from place to place at a rapid pace.

Hi George, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. Sounds like you had a fun, if somewhat fast, journey through Central America! We hope to see you on another trip with us again soon – you deserve to treat yourself to a more leisurely trip next time, how about a sailing trip? :) Kind regards, Intrepid

Great trip, amazing scenery. Some excellent options of extras available, at a cost. Guide Pablo one of the best. Tour suitable for mixed ages. Downside ~ more time in Guatemala would have been an advantage.

There are not many inclusions in this trip, prepare to bring $300-$500 extra money if you want to do the optional activities on offer - they are worth it and are fantastic. Also need extra money for meals as none are included. The hotels are comfortable and the transport was excellent. The guide helps make the border crossings easy and helps organise the excursions. I would travel with Intrepid again.

What are people saying about TourRadar?

    • Leslie3rd September 2018
It is too bad there is no 6 or 8 star rating available. 5 isn't really good enough for TourRadar. This enterprise surpasses even the most stringent, high-bar criteria for excellence of customer service. These people are consistently, constantly, on top of your tour itinerary, where you are are in the process, your current status and your situation, they answer the phone on the 2nd or 3rd ring, I'M NOT KIDDING, nd when they pick up they already know who you are, what your tour and status is, and they instantly produce precise answers and solutions to your questions or problems in a matter of seconds. I don't know who the competition is for this outfit but my advice to them is, give up. Go find another line of business. You will never catch up with the platinum customer service these people provide.
