Itinerary
- Day 1
Tangier - Chefchaouen
You'll arrive in Tangier and start by walking through the vibrant medina with its mix of local life and commerce. From there, head to the Kasbah to see the old fortress and its views over the city, then check out the Grand Mosque before making your way to Cape Spartel where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. After that, swing by Hercules Caves to explore the rock formations and sea caves. Later in the afternoon, you'll drive south to Chefchaouen (about 2 hours), a mountain town famous for its blue-painted buildings. Settle in for the night and get some rest.

- Day 2
Chefchaouen
Spend your day in Chefchaouen wandering the narrow streets lined with blue-washed buildings and white trim. Walk through the medina to see local shops, cafes, and the central square where you can watch daily life happen around you. Visit the kasbah in the old part of town for some history, then head up to the Spanish Mosque for views across the rooftops and surrounding mountains. The panoramic perspective from up there really shows why this town looks so special. Return to your accommodation for another night here.

- Day 3
Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fes
Take one last walk through Chefchaouen's blue medina before leaving town, then head south for about 2 hours toward Volubilis. Spend time checking out the Roman ruins there, including mosaics and stone arches from centuries ago. After that, continue to Meknes (about 45 minutes away) to see Bab Mansour, the impressive gate to the old city, plus the royal granaries and medina. Later in the afternoon, drive on to Fes (roughly 1 hour) and arrive in time to walk through parts of the UNESCO-listed medina, historic madrasas, and bustling souks before settling in.

- Day 4
Fes
Join a guided tour through Fes's medina with someone who knows the winding streets and history well. You'll visit major landmarks like the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and its connected university, both significant to Islamic education for centuries. Walk through the souks where merchants sell spices, leather goods, metalwork, and textiles, taking in the activity and energy of the place. Your guide will share information about how the city developed, its cultural traditions, and what daily life looks like here.

- Day 5
Fes - Ifrane - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga
Leave Fes heading toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane to walk around its clean, orderly streets and see the alpine-style buildings that feel out of place in Morocco. Drive through cedar forests near Azrou, then continue to Midelt, a mountain town sitting between two ranges. From here, head south through landscapes that shift from green to drier terrain as you approach the Ziz Valley. You'll pass through palm groves and see traditional ksour (fortified villages) dotting the area. By evening, arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara and check into your accommodation near the dunes.

- Day 6
Merzouga
Spend the day experiencing Merzouga's desert environment. Take a camel trek across the golden dunes, either early morning or late afternoon when the light is best and it's cooler. In the afternoon or morning (depending on when you trek), visit Khamlia Village where local musicians perform Gnawa music, a traditional style with roots in sub-Saharan Africa. Also check out Merzouga Lake, a small body of water in the desert that creates a serene contrast to the surrounding sand. Return to your riad or hotel for the evening.

- Day 7
Merzouga - Erfoud - Todra Gorges - Dades Gorges
Wake early to see the sunrise over the dunes, then drive west out of Merzouga toward Erfoud (about 1.5 hours), a town known for its fossils and date production. Continue through palm oases on scenic roads, watching the landscape change as you go. Reach Todra Gorges where you can get out and walk along the canyon floor between towering limestone cliffs that rise dramatically on both sides. The narrow passages and rock formations make for good photos and short walks. Afterward, head toward Dades Gorges (another 1.5 hours), passing through more dramatic rock formations and traditional kasbahs. Finish your day surrounded by winding valleys and views of the layered geology around you.

- Day 8
Dades Gorges - Valley of Roses - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech
Leave Dades Gorges and drive through striking red and brown rock formations toward the Valley of Roses, where fragrant rose fields and small villages fill the landscape in spring. Continue past Skoura with its palm groves and traditional homes. Reach Ait Ben Haddou, an earthen ksar (fortified village) that's been used as a film location many times and is listed by UNESCO for its architecture and design. After exploring here, cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n'Tichka Pass with several stops for panoramic views. By late afternoon or early evening, arrive in Marrakech and settle in for the night.

Marrakech
Start in Marrakech's historic medina where you'll see Koutoubia Mosque with its distinctive minaret, Bahia Palace with its decorated rooms and courtyards, and Saadian Tombs with stone carvings and history. Walk through the colorful souks where vendors sell spices piled high in pyramids, textiles in bright patterns, leather goods, and local crafts. Stop at Jemaa el-Fnaa square where snake charmers, storytellers, musicians, and food stalls create an energetic scene. Later, visit Majorelle Garden for a quieter break among the blue structures and green plants. By evening, head to a traditional riad for dinner and experience Moroccan cuisine in an intimate setting as the city comes alive with night activity.

Marrakech - Essaouira
Travel from Marrakech to Essaouira (about 2.5 hours along the coast). Once there, explore the vibrant medina with its narrow streets and local shops. Check out historic sites within the old town, then spend time at the beaches where the Atlantic coast meets the city. Grab fresh seafood at one of the restaurants along the port and soak in the relaxed, laid-back vibe that Essaouira has compared to busier Moroccan cities. Wander the ramparts if you want views of the water.

Essaouira - Asfi - El Jadida - Casablanca
Leave Essaouira and spend some time enjoying its historic medina and ramparts one more time before heading north along the coast. Drive to Asfi, a small port town known for its pottery workshops where craftspeople make and sell traditional items, plus its fishing port where boats still work daily. The atmosphere here is much quieter than larger cities. Continue north to El Jadida to explore the Portuguese Cité Portugaise, a UNESCO-listed fortified town built by the Portuguese centuries ago with stone ramparts and seaside views. Finish the day driving to Casablanca (about 1.5 hours) and settle in for the night.

Casablanca - Rabat
Visit the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, an iconic structure with its minaret overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and intricate tilework and marble inside. Spend time walking around the mosque and its surroundings. Later, drive to Rabat (about 1 hour north) to see Hassan Tower, the remains of an ancient minaret, and the Royal Palace, both important landmarks in the capital city. Explore the medina and see the blend of old and new architecture.

Rabat - Tangier
Take a scenic drive back to Tangier (roughly 5 hours from Casablanca), traveling through different regions and landscapes you've seen over the past week or so. Use this time to reflect on your journey through Morocco, from the Mediterranean coast to the Sahara and back, thinking about the cities, people, and experiences you've had.
