- Day 1
Rome
You'll get transferred to your hotel when you arrive in Rome. Spend the afternoon getting settled and checking with hotel reception for information about upcoming tours. This gives you time to freshen up and get your bearings before things get going.

- Day 2
Rome
A three-hour guided tour combines walking and a panoramic bus ride through Imperial Rome. You'll see the Arch of Constantine, Colosseum exterior, Imperial Forums, Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla, Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Pyramid of Cestius, and Castel Sant'Angelo. By 11:00 a.m. you're at Vatican City with an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Later in the evening, you'll transfer to Trastevere for dinner, heading back around 8:30 p.m.

- Day 3
Rome
This day is completely free for you to explore Rome on your own terms. Wander through the charming streets, find hidden historical corners, and get a sense of the city's ancient character at your own pace. There's no scheduled tour, so it's your call what to do.

- Day 4
Rome - Orvieto - Castiglione del Lago - Siena
You'll travel through Umbria to Orvieto, a medieval city sitting on top of a flat summit. After checking out the viewpoint and taking escalators up to the medieval center, you'll visit the Gothic cathedral. From there, head to Castiglione del Lago on Lake Trasimeno for a walk and lunch. Later you continue to Siena in Tuscany to see Piazza del Campo and the Duomo before settling in for the evening.

- Day 5
Siena - Monteriggioni - San Gimignano - Florence
Leaving Siena, you'll stop at Monteriggioni, a medieval village with cobbled streets and old walls. Next is San Gimignano with its famous tall medieval towers. After lunch, you travel to Florence arriving in the early afternoon. There's time to enjoy the historic center, and if you're into art, the Uffizi Gallery or Accademia Gallery are options (note that Accademia closes on Mondays). Dinner is included this evening.

- Day 6
Florence
Start at the Michelangelo viewpoint for city views, then walk to the historic center for a guided tour. You'll see the Gothic Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze), Ponte Vecchio with its goldsmith shops, and Piazza della Signoria, which was the political center of the city. After the tour ends, the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.

- Day 7
Florence - Pisa - Cinque Terre - Genoa
Travel to Pisa where a tourist train takes you to Piazza dei Miracoli to see the famous Leaning Tower. After that, head to the Ligurian Riviera and Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with five charming villages. You'll take a train (tickets are included) to one of the towns, typically Vernazzo though Manarola or Corniglia might be used during busy times. Grab lunch, then train to Levanto and bus to Genoa where you'll have free time exploring the city center.

- Day 8
Genoa - Santa Margherita Ligure/Rapallo - Portofino - Milan
Travel to Santa Margherita Ligure (or Rapallo from May 30th through November 2nd due to bus restrictions) and board a boat for Portofino, one of Europe's most exclusive destinations. Spend time strolling by the water and relaxing. After lunch, continue to Milan for free time. If you're interested, the Gothic cathedral in Piazza del Duomo or Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II are worth checking out.

- Day 9
Milan - Lake Orta - Lake Maggiore - Verona
Explore the Italian Lakes region, starting at Lake Orta in Orta San Giulio, a well-kept medieval city. Take a train to the medieval center, then a boat to the Island of San Giulio with its monastery. Next, head to Lake Maggiore stopping in Stresa where you can optionally visit the Borromean Islands including Isola Bella with its gardens and palace. Have lunch and then continue to Verona.

- Day 10
Verona - Venice
Spend time exploring Verona before heading to Venice, arriving around 1:00 p.m. A boat trip to St. Mark's Square is included, followed by a guided walking tour of the City of Canals and a visit to see Murano glasswork. After that you have leisure time, and a gondola ride is something to consider if it appeals to you. You'll be staying in the Mestre district.

Travel to Padua to visit the magnificent Saint's Basilica, a major pilgrimage destination. Continue to the Adriatic coast and San Marino, a charming independent country on top of a fortified mountain. After lunch, cross the picturesque Apennines heading to Gubbio, a well-preserved town known for the impressive Palace of Consuls and a 12th-century cathedral. You'll arrive in Perugia by evening.

- Day 12
Perugia - Assisi - Rome - Naples
Take a panoramic tour of Perugia, the city of chocolate, with a local guide. Use moving walkways to cross the rocky outcrop and explore the medieval underground city with its stone-paved streets and charming squares. Head to Assisi for lunch and a visit to the Basilica of St. Francis. In the afternoon, travel south (sometimes stopping in Rome to drop off other passengers) and arrive in Naples by evening.

- Day 13

After breakfast, head to the Naples port to take a ferry to the Island of Capri. Consider taking the funicular up to Capri town to walk around and enjoy the views. After lunch, reboard and head to Sorrento, a tourist town at the base of a cliff with free time to wander. Later, continue to the Gulf of Salerno and stay in the city of Salerno.

Travel through southern Italian scenery, crossing Cilento National Park. Arrive in Paola on the Tyrrhenian Sea to visit the Sanctuary of St. Francis of Paola and enjoy free time for lunch in the charming historic center. Travel to Villa San Giovanni for a short ferry crossing to Sicily. Upon arriving in Messina, stroll around the cathedral. Continue to Taormina with dinner included.

At the foot of Mount Etna, explore beautiful Taormina. Early morning head to Giardini Naxos, the first Greek settlement in Sicily from 734 B.C., with its seafront promenade and beaches. Stroll through Taormina's lively old town with its Greek Theatre overlooking the landscape. After lunch, visit the Roman Villa of Casale (admission and guided tour included), a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its 4th-century layout and mosaics. Cross mountainous Sicily to Palermo, arriving at day's end with dinner included.
