Itinerary
- Day 1
Kilimanjaro National Park
You'll start with breakfast and a briefing before driving to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to register. From there, the hike heads into rainforest toward Mandara Hut, with towering Eucalyptus trees surrounding you and chances to spot Colobus monkeys and various birds. A short detour to Maundi Crater gives you views across Northern Tanzania and into Kenya. The day involves about 8km of hiking through montane forest, moving from 1860m up to 2700m elevation.

- Day 2
Horombo Hut
The rainforest drops away as you follow an ascending trail through open moorlands toward Horombo Hut. You'll see Mawenzi and Kibo peaks ahead, with giant lobelias and groundsels dotting the landscape. Around 12km of hiking gains roughly 1000m in elevation, and you might start noticing altitude effects by the end of the day.

Horombo Hut (Acclimatization Day)
You're staying a second night at Horombo Hut for acclimatization. Your guide takes you on an acclimatization walk to Zebra Rocks and the base of Mawenzi Peak, where Kibo looms dramatically across the saddle. Afterward, you'll spend the rest of the day at camp resting and letting your body adjust to the elevation.

Kibo Hut
The ascent continues past the final water source onto the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Vegetation transitions from upper heathland into lunar-like terrain as you climb toward Kibo Hut. After arriving at camp, you'll have dinner and spend the evening resting mentally and physically for the summit attempt starting just after midnight.

Summit Day and Return to Horombo
You'll depart between midnight and 2 AM for the summit push, climbing steeply up scree or snow to Gilman's Point on the crater rim, then on to Uhuru Peak at 5895m, the highest point in Africa. After time for photos and celebration, you descend back to Kibo Hut for lunch, then continue down to Horombo Hut where you'll overnight.

Marangu Gate and Return to Moshi
Following breakfast, you'll descend through moorland to Mandara Hut, then continue down through forest paths to Marangu Gate. The lower elevation trails can be muddy and wet from moisture. A vehicle meets you at the gate for the roughly 1 hour drive back to your hotel in Moshi, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro trek.
