Itinerary
- Day 1
Moshi to Lemosho Glades
After breakfast and a briefing, you'll drive about 3 hours to Londorossi Park Gate. From there, a 4WD vehicle takes you on a forest track to Lemosho Glades where the actual hiking begins. You'll walk along forest trails through montane forest to reach Mti Mkubwa campsite, covering 6km over 2-3 hours.

Lemosho to Shira 1
Starting after breakfast, the trail gradually gets steeper as you enter the giant heather moorland zone. You'll cross several streams and make your way over Shira Ridge before heading down to Shira 1 camp. This 8km hike over 4-5 hours takes you to 3500m elevation.

Shira Plateau
After breakfast, you'll take a gentler hike across the plateau to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows. Optional hikes are available if you want to explore more, making this a good acclimatization day. You'll cover 8km over 4-5 hours while gaining altitude to 3850m.

Shira Plateau to Barranco Camp
From Shira Plateau, you'll head east up a ridge past the junction toward Kibo's peak, then change direction southeast toward the Lava Tower, also called the 'Shark's Tooth' at 4650m. After passing the tower, you'll reach a junction for Arrow Glacier and descend to Barranco Camp. Though you end at roughly the same elevation you started, this day is crucial for acclimatization.

Barranco to Karanga Valley
After breakfast, you'll leave Barranco and tackle the steep Barranco Wall to reach Karanga Valley. At the valley, you'll find where the Mweka Trail connects. This is a shorter but steep climbing day covering 5km over 3-4 hours to reach 4050m.

Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp
You'll continue climbing to Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit with views of the summit from various angles. Once at camp, you'll rest, have dinner, and get ready for the challenging summit day ahead. This shorter climbing day covers 4km over 3-4 hours to reach 4700m.

Landmarks Barafu Camp - Day 7
Summit Day and Descent
You'll start between midnight and 2am and trek to the summit between Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, heading northwest through heavy scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. This section is the hardest part mentally and physically. At Stella Point you get a brief rest and see the sunrise. Snow may be present on the final push to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. After summit photos, you'll descend to Mweka Camp with a lunch stop at Barafu. Gaiters and trekking poles help with the loose gravel.

- Day 8
Mweka Gate to Moshi
After breakfast, you'll complete the final descent down to Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. Lower elevations can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and poles continue to be useful. You'll cover 10km over 3-4 hours. Your vehicle waits at the gate for the 60-minute drive back to your hotel in Moshi.
