  We were disappointed on arrival into Istanbul we had a night booked pre tour but were then told when we arrived in Turkey the tour was beginning a day early. We needed more time after a long flight from Australia.- that is why we booked an extra night for jet lag).Then we were told only 4 passengers and we were in a small van (not comfortable) with a driver who didn’t speak good English and gave no information for the whole tour. We booked the tour with knowledge we would have a tour guide and driver for complete tour! Not our problem there was four passengers. Itinerary was changed too on first day to get a shortcut to Gallipoli. We picked up a specialist guide who had a very bad cold and we gave a shortened tour of Gallipoil( our interest) in order for us to squeeze in a tour of Troy on the same afternoon rather than the next day as per itinerary. We explained to the ‘Have a Travel Agency’ owner as well as specialist tour guide from Ephasus we were not happy not having a guide and being rushed. He said it was the way he ran tour when not a lot of passengers- not good enough. On the second day he fell asleep in the van whilst supposedly guiding us and at Parmekule was too busy chatting to friends to give us much information. Our tour included breakfast daily and 6 dinners. The dinners were not happening so I asked the owner why. He was caught out!From then he quickly tried to fit in meals but still owing us one got his taxi driver to give us only 400 lira (only Aud $12 each) on our transfer to the airport! The whole tour was on motorways! One day we drove from 8.00am straight up a motorway 11hours !!!!!!! The driver said nothing! No sightseeing!We had one 15 min stop at 10am and then he drove 4 hours without a break. It was discovered the restaurant we were meant to stop for lunch was closed. The driver then went searching for an unplanned cafe which had filthy toilets and I found an area with six dead(drowned) cats. I could not eat there. We then drove until 7.15pm. The specialist guides we had we quite good but on one tour the guide was very old and repeated himself, lost his train of thought and we were worried a couple if times he might fall as he was very unsteady on his feet. The accommodation was overall was very good except for the 4 nights at Crown Plaza in Istanbul. The room was so small we could not lay out our suitcases! He then tried to apologize and booked a quick Turkish bath session for the four of us. His quotes for ‘extra tours’ like hot air ballooning in Cappadocia were very expensive. Obviously commission driven. We booked an amazing first class tour and saved over Aud $100 by not booking through him. There was so much pressure to buy on their shop tours for Turkish rugs, leather jackets, jewelllry, ceramics and food). It was evident by owners mood on second day of his tour he was not impressed we didn’t buy much and he got little commission. Very disappointing! A flight between Cappadocia and Istanbul was included in our tour but on questioning the allowance for luggage his tickets were far below our weight. We are travelling for a further 6 weeks independently after the tour and carry 20kg suitcases. Luckily we paid for more online before getting to the airport and having to pay exorbitant fee for excess luggage. And so My husband and I are very unhappy with this ‘5 star’ Turkey tour we booked through Thursday . It certainly was not up to standard and you should be aware of it. I would like to know what you can do about it. I have had a career in the Tourism Industry and have travelled the world. I have been on many coach tours but never on so unprofessional as this.
