Itinerary
- Day 1
Tirana to Theth
You'll head from Tirana into the Albanian Alps toward Theth, a remote mountain village. After getting settled and grabbing lunch at your guesthouse, you'll take a 45-minute walk out to Gurnas waterfall. On the way back, your guide shares the village's complex history including blood feuds and the tradition of Sworn Virgins. The night is spent in Theth.

Theth to Valbona
Today brings a hike across the Valbona Pass using an old mule track. The route covers 16.3 km with moderate difficulty, moving through varied landscape with views across the mountains. Two stops break up the walk for mountain tea and lunch. You'll overnight in Valbona.

- Day 3
Valbona to Doberdol
You're transported to Cerem, a small village brought back to life by hiking routes. From there you hike toward Doberdol, a shepherd's settlement only accessible by mule tracks. The path climbs toward the Montenegrin border, cuts through Balqin's summer village, and traverses the protected Gashi valley before reaching Doberdol. Here you can explore the glacial lakes on the Doberdol-Sulbices plateau. Mountain huts provide your accommodation.

Doberdol to Milishevc
This hike takes you into Kosovo through terrain with spotty phone coverage. The main draw is reaching the Three Border Peak, where Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro all meet at one point. You'll overnight in Milishevc.

Milishevc to Reka e Allagës
The day starts with climbing up to Lumbardhi ridge for sweeping views of Milishevc and surrounding peaks. Then comes a steep drop down to Rugova Camp Hotel, followed by travel along gravel roads to Reka e Allagis. You'll stay in a guesthouse overnight.

Reka e Allagës to Drelaj
You'll hike up to Hajla peak at 2403m, where decent weather gives you sightlines into five countries: Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia, Serbia, and Macedonia. The slopes here are covered with endemic flowers including Albanian Lilies. After descending, you reach Drelaj, a notably more developed settlement than earlier stops. The night is spent in Drelaj.

Drelaj to Babinopolje
A short ride gets you to the hiking trailhead, then you walk toward Montenegro through an area thick with water resources and glacial lakes. You'll pass through the historic Shkodra Pass, which once saw caravans moving silver and precious goods. By evening you reach Babinopolje on the Montenegrin side, situated nicely on the Peaks of Balkans trail. A guesthouse is your base for the night.

Landmarks Shkodra Pass - Day 8
Babinopolje to Grbaj
You're spending time in the Grbaj valley, one of Montenegro's most beautiful valleys. After a 20-minute drive, you climb Taljanka peak. Then you visit The Great Mother, a Bronze Age rock carving showing parents shielding their child from wolves. Local belief holds that the rock has healing properties, particularly for women's fertility.

Grbaj to Theth
This is a long, rewarding hike surrounded by steep mountains with far-reaching views. The trail winds past bunkers and fortifications from the Cold War period, when this zone was heavily controlled by Albania and Yugoslavia. You'll trek through the Alps and reach Theth by late afternoon, completing your mountain circuit. You'll stay in a hotel that final night.

Landmarks Cold War Bunker Line - Day 10
Theth to Shkoder or Tirana
You'll leave Theth later in the morning after a full breakfast. A short drive takes you to Shkoder, the largest city in the Albanian Alps region. You can wrap up the tour here for private arrangements or continue on to Tirana as your final stop. Other drop-off points are available if you need them.
