You're arriving in France, and this first day gives you the freedom to explore the French Riviera on your own terms. The Mediterranean coast here stretches from Toulon down to the Italian border, so there's plenty of ground to cover. This is your chance to get oriented and find your favorite spots before the structured activities begin.

Nice
A guided tour takes you through Nice's old city, where narrow streets and baroque churches haven't changed much since the 1700s. You'll wander through Vieux Nice with a guide pointing out the historical details, then you'll have time to explore on your own. The layout here is compact, so walking around is easy once you get the lay of the land.

French Riviera - Aix-en-Provence to Arles
You'll board your cruise ship and take a motorcoach transfer heading toward Arles. The route includes a stop in Aix-en-Provence where you get a guided tour through Cézanne's hometown, seeing the places that inspired the artist. After that, you'll continue on to Arles where your ship is docked and waiting for you.

Arles to Avignon
Arles offers three options at the Adventure Center: a power walk to get the blood flowing, a painting workshop where you'll learn Vincent van Gogh techniques, or a guided walking tour covering the Roman Amphitheater and other historic spots. Afterward, you can drop by Le Café Van Gogh for a break. Later, the ship sails toward Avignon, so grab a good vantage point to watch the Provence landscape slip by.

You'll have free time to explore art, culture, and monuments on your own, and then head back to the ship for live entertainment in the evening.

Viviers to Tain l'Hermitage
The morning sail to Viviers is leisurely, giving you time to relax. Once there, you can either hike up to the hilltop Cathedral with your Adventure Host or take a guided walking tour of the pale-stone village and its Romanesque cathedral. Before sailing to Tain l'Hermitage, you'll taste local specialties onboard, so you'll get a real sense of what the region offers.

Tournon to Lyon
Tournon is one of France's oldest medieval cities, and you've got choices for the morning. Either hike with your Adventure Host or take a guided tour of the 16th-century castle. By early afternoon, you're sailing to Lyon. The evening includes live entertainment onboard, so you can settle in and enjoy the atmosphere as you travel.

Lyon to Tournus
You're in Lyon with your choice of how to spend the day. There's a bike tour along the rivers where the Rhône and Saône meet, or you can take a guided sightseeing tour starting from Fourvière Hill that walks through churches and the Old Town's medieval alleyways. After exploring, you'll have free time to bike around or wander through town squares before the ship sails to Tournus. The evening includes live entertainment onboard.

Back onboard, there's a cheese tasting while you sail to Chalon-sur-Saône, and live entertainment in the evening rounds out the day.

Breisach to Kehl
You've got several ways to explore this part of Germany and the Black Forest. If you prefer something different, there's an optional visit to the charming village of Colmar. An evening cruise takes you to Kehl.

Strasbourg can be explored by bike with your Adventure Host or by guided city sightseeing tour, both covering the Gothic cathedral's stained-glass and astronomical clock plus La Petite France District. If history interests you, there are optional guided excursions to the Maginot Line fortifications or Alsace's wine country. Otherwise, you can spend your time visiting museums and exploring the city center. By evening, you're sailing to Mainz.

Pick whichever appeals to you most. After exploring, live entertainment plays onboard while you take a short sail to Rüdesheim.

Your cruise to Koblenz passes through the Rhine Gorge UNESCO World Heritage site, where you'll see ancient castles on cliffs and the legendary Rock of the Lorelei. Dinner and live entertainment happen onboard.

Optional excursions include Keukenhof gardens (when in season) or a countryside biking tour. You'll have time to explore at your own pace, and the ship stays docked overnight.
