Itinerary
- Day 1
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins at Marangu Gate where you'll meet your guides and porters. From there, you'll hike through lush rainforest on a relatively gentle trail covering about 8 kilometres over 3-4 hours. The forest is thick and green, and the path winds gradually upward to Mandara Hut at 2,700 metres/8,858 feet where you'll spend your first night.

Landmarks Marangu Gate Mandara Hut - Day 2
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Starting from Mandara Hut, you'll continue through the remaining rainforest before the landscape shifts into heath and moorland. The terrain gets gradually steeper as you cover approximately 12 kilometres over 5-6 hours. By the end of the day, you'll reach Horombo Hut at 3,720 metres/12,205 feet, and you'll notice the air feels different at this altitude.

Landmarks Horombo Hut - Day 3
Horombo Hut (Acclimatisation Day)
This day is all about letting your body adjust to the altitude. You'll stay at Horombo Hut and can choose how to spend the time. Some people take a short hike to Zebra Rocks to explore the surroundings, while others prefer to rest and drink plenty of water. This acclimatisation day is really important for reducing altitude sickness risk and improving your summit chances.

Landmarks Zebra Rocks - Day 4
Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Leaving Horombo Hut behind, you'll enter the Alpine Desert Zone with its bare, rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. The 10-kilometre hike takes about 5-6 hours as you steadily climb to Kibo Hut at 4,703 metres/15,429 feet. This is your base camp for the summit attempt, and you'll want to settle in early and get rest.

Landmarks Kibo Hut - Day 5
Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Summit day starts around midnight from Kibo Hut. You'll hike roughly 4 kilometres over 6-8 hours through increasingly steep terrain, including the challenging final stretch called the Uhuru Peak Shuffle. Once you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres/19,341 feet, you'll head back down to Kibo Hut for a brief rest, then continue descending to Horombo Hut at 3,720 metres for your final night on the mountain.
