Villach to Tarvisio
This morning you'll start cycling along the River Gail, heading from Villach into Italy and through the Canal Valley. By the end of the day you'll reach Tarvisio, that interesting border town where Austria, Italy, and Slovenia all meet. The cultural mix here is real and visible, with Germanic, Romanic, and Slavic influences blending together.

Kanaltal Valley to Udine
Today's route goes through wine country with vine-covered hills, and you'll cycle to Gemona del Friuli, a historic town dominated by the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. After that you'll continue on to Udine, a city with strong Venetian influences where late Gothic and Renaissance buildings line the streets and squares.

Along the route there's the option to visit Palmanova, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you can also check out the archaeological excavation sites of the ancient city of Aquilea if time allows.
