  It took getting used to making my way to meeting points. Support via email prior to the tour was great. My 2nd guided tour was not good. The guide reached out only 30 mins prior to the start. Most guides reach out 2 days prior. This was very upsetting and I missed that tour. I was also not happy and the hotel switch at the last minute, but Tourradar came through with the original hotels and compensated with breakfast included at one.Show more

The activities I participated in were greatly enjoyed, hotels were high quality and the itinerary allowed a good balance of scheduled events and personal time to explore.   This tour is fine if you want someone else to handle the major planning — hotels, trains between cities, and a basic itinerary that covers the highlights. But honestly, we could have easily booked everything ourselves. The single supplement fee was especially excessive. Tour Radar charged my friend and me over $600 USD, yet the Osaka hotel they booked was the exact same one we booked on our own later for only about $50 USD. Most of the tours were also third-party excursions you can book yourself through sites like GetYourGuide or Tripadvisor. The package didn’t include meals or transportation between the train stations and hotels either, so it was hard to see where much of the extra cost went. The main benefit was having reminders sent to us and receiving the QR codes for the train rides between cities. That said, Japan’s train and subway systems are incredibly efficient and surprisingly easy to navigate once you get the hang of them. My recommendation would be to book everything yourself.Show more

Hotels generally charge per room rather than per person, and most tour pricing is based on two guests. When traveling solo, the full room cost cannot be shared, which may result in an additional supplement for private occupancy. We appreciate your honest feedback and understand that independent travel may suit some travelers, especially in destinations like Japan where transportation systems are efficient and accessible.   I would realistically give the tour 3.5 out of 5. It is not a “tour” as such, just a series of bookings made by the tour company - hotels, trains and activities. We had to be very alert and in control of timings but everything went smoothly. Regarding the hotels: the Osaka hotel (Toyoko Inn Kyobashi Sakuranomiya) was serviceable but pretty basic, the bed was the hardest I’ve ever slept on and breakfast was not good. The hotels in Kyoto (OMO3) and Hiroshima (Daiwa Roynet) were better, particularly the OMO3. In Hiroshima we had a non-smoking room but it had clearly been smoked in before. We enjoyed our walking tour of Osaka and the Hiroshima e-bike tour was probably the highlight. However, the Kyoto bus tour was very disappointing - unfortunately our guide spoke zero English (we had an English audio guide on the bus but once off the bus, it was self guided) - perhaps a different company would be an improvement for foreign visitors. All the bullet train bookings went smoothly. I booked the tour for myself and my family as a framework for our trip to Japan, however going forward I would now have the confidence to organise the same thing myself with the ability to evaluate the accommodation and activities better, not to mention get everything for a lower cost. However, the team from VIO travel were very helpful and available with information and also put us in direct contact with some of the local activity operators.Show more

  Tour Radar did an excellent job organizing and communicating my hotels, train tickets, and tours. In Osaka, the hotel was excellent. I loved the grocery store next door for simple meals (and there are many great restaurants nearby, including a fabulous Middle Eastern place). The walking tour with Tacko (I hope I am spelling his name correctly) was a memorable day. He was very fluent in English and full of history and excitement to share the highlights of the beautiful city.Show more
