Casablanca to Rabat
Start your Morocco journey in Casablanca at the Hassan II Mosque, where the 210-meter minaret and hand-carved details make it a striking first stop. From there, head north to Rabat and walk through the medieval fortifications and Roman ruins scattered throughout the capital. You'll see the Kasbah des Oudaias and spend time in the Andalusian Gardens before checking out Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V. By evening, you'll get a feel for how Morocco blends its Islamic heritage with historical influences.

- Day 2
Rabat to Chefchaouen
Travel north and hike through thick vegetation to reach Cascade d'Akchour waterfalls, then continue to Chefchaouen, a city painted almost entirely in blue. Walk the 15th-century medina streets and visit Plaza Outa el-Hammam before stopping by the Grand Mosque and kasbah museum. Later, climb up to the abandoned Spanish Mosque and time your arrival for sunset so you can look out over the blue-washed buildings below. The views from up there are really something.

- Day 3
Chefchaouen to Fes
This is a driving day with several stops. First, you'll see Volubilis and its Roman ruins and mosaics, then move to Meknes, which feels calmer than other imperial cities. Check out Bab al-Mansour gate, visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and walk through Madrasa Bou Inania and Dar Jamaf palace-museum. After that, continue to Fes and head to the Merenid Tombs at dusk where you'll get panoramic views across the city before settling into your traditional riad for the night.

Fes
Explore Fes el Bali's medieval medina with a local guide who'll lead you through Bab Boujeloud gate into the souks. You'll notice Spanish and Tunisian influences in the architecture as you wander. A standout stop is Chouara Tannery, which you'll view from a leather shop rooftop to see the 11th-century stone dye pots still in use. Before finishing, tour the Al-Qarawiyyin Library and Mosque, originally built in 859 CE, both significant to Islamic scholarship and architecture.

Fes

Walk through the Andalusian gardens next, then head to the mellah, Fes's old Jewish quarter, where you'll find good spots for city photos. Later, visit a Ceramics and Tile Collective to see artisans working on their craft. Finish your day relaxing in Jnan Sbil Gardens, which has fountains and a small lake, giving you a quieter side of the city.

- Day 6
Fes to Merzouga
Head out early and drive south through cedar forests of the Middle Atlas mountains, crossing Col du Zad pass at 7,146 feet. Watch for Barbary Macaque monkeys along the way and stop for lunch in Midelt. Keep driving over Tizi n'Talremt pass into the Ziz Valley, where you'll see oases and palm clusters between fortified ksars. Stop at a fossil collective in Erfoud, then reach Erg Chebbi sand dunes for a camel ride through the dunes to your camp. Trek up a sand dune as the sun sets and enjoy dinner by the campfire.

Merzouga
Get up early to catch the desert sunrise, then visit Khemliya village for traditional drumming, dancing, and walks through local areas. Stop by Rissani market town to see the livestock auction, sometimes called the 'donkey parking lot' by locals. Continue to Tinerhir to take in views of the 30-mile river oasis lined with palm trees. End at Todra Gorge, cut through red limestone by the Todra River and nearly 1,000 feet high, where you can walk around and swim in the shallow river waters.

Todra Gorge to Aït Benhaddou
Travel through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs and Dades Valley heading toward Aït Benhaddou. Stop in Kela'a M'gouna to see rose bushes and visit a rose collective learning about rose water and oil production. You have the option to pop into Ouarzazate if you want to tour movie studios and the cinema museum, though this isn't required. At Aït Benhaddou, you'll explore the UNESCO World Heritage 11th-century ksour, climb up to the old Granary for panoramic views, and have a quiet dinner with the valley spread out below.

- Day 9
Aït Benhaddou to Marrakesh
Leave Aït Benhaddou and start ascending into the High Atlas mountains with views of Mount Toubkal at 13,671 feet, the highest peak in the range. Stop in Taddert at an Argan Oil Cooperative to learn how they process argan nuts and fruit, and you'll get to sample some products. As you descend toward Marrakesh, the climate and landscape shift dramatically from mountains to plains. Check into your hotel, then head out to explore Koutoubia Gardens. By evening, experience Jemaa el-Fna square where musicians, performers, snake charmers, and food stalls create an energetic atmosphere.

Marrakesh
Spend your day exploring Marrakesh's ancient medina starting with the Koutoubia Mosque, built on 12th-century foundations with a 253-foot minaret. Walk through the attached gardens with fountains and pools, then navigate the labyrinth of souks where you'll find spices, woodwork, and traditional Moroccan slippers. Visit the dyers' souk to see traditional dyeing methods still in practice, then tour the ornate Ben Youssef Madrasa, a 16th-century Koranic school with carved cedar ceilings and zellij tiling that shows the level of detail in these older buildings.

Marrakesh to Amizmiz and back
Travel south to Amizmiz in the High Atlas foothills, about an hour from the city. Explore the modest old town market, then start trekking narrow roads and mule paths with a mountain guide. You'll hike between small Berber villages, watching local farmers and shepherds work while children head to shared schools. Around midday, stop for lunch with a local family where you'll learn about bread-making. After lunch, continue hiking and then spend your evening and night at another Berber home.

Amizmiz to Marrakesh
Have breakfast with your hosts before saying goodbye and continuing your hike to explore local scenery and nearby towns. Later, return to Marrakesh and visit the kasbah area south of Jemaa el-Fna. Check out the Saadian Tombs dating back 500 years, then see the sunken gardens of the 17th-century El Badi Palace and explore the mellah. If you have time, visit the 19th-century Bahia Palace and potentially the Dar Di Said Museum, which has clothing, antiques, jewelry, and carved cedar wood decorations from different periods.

- Day 13
Marrakesh to Casablanca
Wake early for any last shopping you want to do, then visit the 12th-century Almoravid Koubba, the only remaining Almoravid monument that was rediscovered in 1948. Transfer to Casablanca for your return flight. Depending on your departure time, you might have a chance to stroll Boulevard de la Corniche and grab a final meal at Rick's Café before heading to the airport.
