Your cycling trip starts in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, where you'll begin with a tour information meeting and get your bike fitted properly. After that, you can walk through the city's winding alleyways and check out the impressive abbey church. Neustadt an der Weinstraße to Rastatt
Today you'll cycle about 100 km through wine villages and countryside. You'll pass through Landau with its medieval market hall and main square, then head to Bad Bergzabern where there's a Baroque palace and Westwall museum to see. From there, you'll ride through the Bienwald forest and Lautertal valley before crossing into Alsace. Wissembourg's former Benedictine abbey comes next, and the day finishes back in Germany at Rastatt's impressive Baroque residence.

- Day 3
Rastatt to Speyer
This is a scenic 90 km cycle along a Rhine section with some great stops along the way. You'll pass by Karlsruhe's royal seat, castle, and pyramid, then continue through the Hördter Rheinauen, which is the largest nature reserve in the Pfalz region. Later, you'll reach Germersheim, a former fortified city with interesting history, and finish in Speyer where you can see the UNESCO World Heritage cathedral.

Speyer to Worms
You've got about 70 km to cover today through the Rhine plain. Starting at Schwetzingen's famous palace and gardens, you'll head toward Heidelberg, home to Germany's oldest university. There you can visit the palace complex and walk around the historic old town along the Neckar River. After leaving Heidelberg, the route goes through forests and passes Ladenburg with its characteristic half-timbered houses, finishing up in Worms, an ancient imperial city known for its legendary cathedral.

Worms to Mainz
Today's a more leisurely 75 km ride along the Rhine, and you'll use some idyllic paths of the Old Rhine arms. You'll pass through Oppenheim, known as the town of 'Gothic and wine,' and there's a short ferry ride across the Rhine where you can enjoy views of Nierstein. From there, you continue cycling through vineyards toward Mainz, which has the second imperial cathedral of your trip.

Mainz to Alzey
Starting with a Rhine crossing in Mainz, you'll head to romantic Rüdesheim where a cable car ride over the vineyards is recommended if you want to take a break from cycling. You'll cross the Rhine again at Bingen where the Mäuseturm and the 10th-century Drusus Bridge with its chapel are located. From there, the route continues through vineyards to Alzey, known as the 'Volker town' with connections to the legendary fiddler from the Song of the Nibelungs. About 80 km total for the day.

Alzey to Neustadt an der Weinstraße
Your final cycling day takes you through the German Wine Route over roughly 80 km. You'll start at Bobenheim and continue through the quiet wine-growing town of Grünstadt, passing several beautiful wine villages along the way. Bad Dürkheim is a key stop where you can see the world's largest wine barrel, and then you'll visit Deidesheim to check out its medieval town hall and wine museum. The route finishes by cycling over the 'balcony of the Palatinate' to bring you back to Neustadt, where your trip began.
