Thank you so much for sharing your experience — what a wonderful reflection! It’s inspiring to read how your spontaneous decision to visit the Ecuadorian Amazon turned into such a meaningful and enriching encounter. The way you describe your time with the Kichwa community, your connection with the local people, and your admiration for their traditions and conservation efforts truly captures the essence of what makes Napo Cultural Centre so special. We’re delighted to hear that your guide made your stay unforgettable and that you were able to witness such incredible wildlife — even the sloth on your last day! Your words perfectly illustrate the spirit of responsible travel and cultural immersion that we value deeply. Thank you again for recommending this experience — your feedback means a lot to us and to the community itself. Warm regards, Alvaro Pereira Responsible Travel South America

    Asked on October 2nd, 2022

We are an older couple with a dislike (fear) of heights and not up to long or strenuous hikes. What is a good 3 or 4 day trip to get a feel for the Amazon.

    • Responsible Travel South AmericaOperatorWritten October 2022

Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is the ideal. Per your very important thought about fear of heights and the desire for short and light hikes, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is the ideal. You will not have to hike because you will be taken with a motor canoe from the lodge to the indigenous community. Afternoon activities include canoe rides, watching sunset, swimming or paddling.

    • Responsible Travel South AmericaOperatorWritten October 2022

We have 2 preferred transportation options, both are ground transportation: Shared overnight tourism shuttle bus (9-10 hours) or Private transportation from Quito. If you wish to travel by plane, I can arrange a flight from Quito (UIO) to El Coca (OCC), which is about 3 hours away from the meeting point.

What is the means of transportation form Quito and how long does it take? I thought most Amazon tours required a flight form Quito.

      Natasha

      TravelerWritten October 2022

Is there a tour of the Amazon that originates closer to Quito? Don't like the idea of an 8-9 hour drive.

    • Responsible Travel South AmericaOperatorWritten October 2022

We have an option at the gateway of the Amazon, specifically located at Tena (Napo province). The drive from Quito to Tena will be only three hours long until the gathering and pick-up point at Tena town, from there the lodge will pick you up and take you to Tena Lodge.
