is your your a a hiking tour all the way up, without trains or busses? Also would you pick us up from our living arrangements in Cusco?

    Tour Details
    Transport
    • Ultimate TrekkingOperatorWritten March 2026

Yes, we do offer trekking experiences to Machu Picchu. However, in the case of the Salkantay Trek, the journey is not completely without transport, as the experience ends with a guided visit to Machu Picchu and the return to Cusco is by Expedition train and then the return journey by bus from Ollantaytambo.
The Salkantay Trek is one of the best hiking adventures in Peru and is considered one of the most spectacular routes in the world. It combines a high mountain pass, cloud forest, and impressive Inca sites in a journey full of contrasts.
During the experience, you will visit the beautiful Humantay Lake and spend the first night in our exclusive Salka Glamp. On the second night, you will rest in cozy Andean huts with unforgettable views.
You will cross the Salkantay Pass at 4,600 meters, surrounded by glaciers, and then descend into the warm cloud forest, where you will visit an organic coffee farm and enjoy an authentic Pachamanca prepared underground.
On Day 4, you will enjoy your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu from Llactapata and spend the night in a comfortable hotel. On the final day, you will have a guided tour of the citadel and then return to Cusco by Expedition train.
We also provide pickup from your accommodation in Cusco.

Just to clarify, we would be hiking up to Machu Picchu, among seeing other wonderful places, and then taking the train/bus back down to Cusco. Is that correct?

    • R

      Ronald

      TravelerWritten April 2026

Do you know if all Machu Picchu entrance tickets are sold out, or just those from your company?

    • R

      Ronald

      TravelerWritten April 2026

Also, what happens if I purchase a ticket for the hike/tour, but I don't purchase a Machu Picchu Entrance ticket?

    • Ultimate TrekkingOperatorWritten April 2026

To clarify, all Machu Picchu entrance tickets for May are sold out. There is no availability on the official website, and tickets are sold out for all tour companies, not only for our company.

The only possible option is to try to get one of the 1,000 last-minute tickets sold in person in Aguas Calientes. These tickets are released only 24 hours before the visit, and they must be purchased personally in Aguas Calientes. In some cases, when there are many people waiting, the waiting time can be 48 hours or even up to 72 hours.

What we would need to do is arrive in Aguas Calientes one day earlier and try to get one of these last-minute tickets. If it is not possible to get a ticket for the next day, you would need to wait and queue again early the following morning until a ticket becomes available. In busy months, we have seen waiting times of up to 72 hours. This is only a last option and cannot be guaranteed.

You can still join the tour, but it would need to be understood and accepted that the tour is without a Machu Picchu entrance ticket, and getting the ticket in Aguas Calientes would be your responsibility. Of course, we will assist you and guide you through the process, but any extra expenses caused by the additional waiting time, such as extra hotel nights, meals, or other personal costs, would need to be covered by you.

In this case, we would discount the cost of the Machu Picchu entrance ticket from the tour price, and we would arrange the train only once you have secured your entrance ticket.

    Asked on March 8th, 2026

I will turn 64 this month. I am in good physical shape and plan to prepare for this trip by working out. I am 5'2 and weigh about 135 pounds. Is it possible for an exception to be made? I am flexible on dates, so if there is a better tour anytime between 6/2 and 6/10 that might be better, I am receptive. My primary goal is to hike the Inca trail.

    Tour Details
    • Ultimate TrekkingOperatorWritten March 2026

Regarding your main goal of hiking the Inca Trail, unfortunately the permits for June are already completely sold out. The Inca Trail has a very strict permit system and the spaces often sell out several months in advance.

However, we still have availability for the 5-Day Salkantay Trek, and you could join a departure on June 4th. This is one of the most spectacular alternative routes to Machu Picchu, offering beautiful mountain scenery, glaciers, cloud forest, and a very rewarding hiking experience.

For the final day of the trek, visitors need an entrance ticket to Machu Picchu. At the moment, the regular circuits are also sold out for those dates. The only remaining option is Circuit 1B, which provides access to the upper viewpoints of Machu Picchu. From there you can enjoy the classic panoramic views and take photos from the terraces overlooking the citadel.

If you really want to visit the Inca trail, there is a 2 day Short Inca trail option that visits the last part of the Inca trail.
