Itinerary
- Day 1
Iquitos to Cumaceba Lodge
You'll get picked up at Iquitos Airport and take a short tour around the city before heading to the main harbor. From there, a speedboat takes you out to see the floating houses of Belen on the Itaya River. After that, you'll continue downriver to Cumaceba Lodge, which sits in an ecological reserve. Once you settle into your bungalow, there's a typical lunch, then a walk through primary forest where you can spot medicinal plants and various wildlife. By evening, you'll head out on a night jungle walk to hear the rainforest sounds and catch nocturnal insects and frogs.

- Day 2
Cumaceba Lodge
Start early with a jungle walk through primary rainforest looking for monkeys, birds, sloths, medicinal plants, and orchids. After breakfast, you'll visit the Yagua Indians to learn about their native clothing, dialect, and traditional hunting with blowguns, plus there's a chance to pick up handcrafted items. In the afternoon after lunch, you'll tour the Amazon River and visit a small zoo with sloths, monkeys, turtles, caimans, and anacondas. If the weather cooperates, you can watch the sunset, then head out on a nocturnal canoe trip on the lake to look for caimans.

Cumaceba Lodge to Iquitos
Start with an early canoe ride to Shansho Lake for bird watching in their natural environment. After breakfast, you'll walk a secondary trail to see riverside huts and farms, getting a sense of how local people live out here. Then you'll paddle down the Yanayacu River for canoe rides, piranha fishing and other species, and more bird watching, returning through primary jungle. Following a typical lunch, you'll transfer back to Iquitos for your next destination.
