We love Viking. We have done 15 Vikings, both river and ocean. (The 16th is in June). Viking is for a particular traveler. The tours are all about art, architecture, history. There are no beaches in sight, and no water slide, and no kids. So for many they are too quiet (go take Carnival) . But every day we are up and out visiting and enjoying a new city. Their tour guides are excellent. Viking seems a little more expensive, but they include a free tour in every port**, free beer & wine at lunch and dinner, free wifi. And if you buy their air package, free transport. A high crew to passenger ratio. The crews are great, they are extremely friendly and helpful. They are cleaning freaks, the ship is immaculate. We find Vikings very relaxing. Sorry, there isn't something going on every minute. So sit on your balcony, with a beverage, and watch the beautiful river scenery go by (free coffee, tea, & cookies, always available). Or go down to the "living room" and play a board game or a puzzle with other passengers. ** There are also several optional tours (for an extra cost) in each port, so one can enjoy special things to them.Show more

Our Rhine Getaway cruise was impacted by the flooding on the Rhine River, but the Viking team went out of their way to make our holiday the best that it could be under the circumstances, and we had a marvelous time. In fact, we have already booked another Viking cruise for 2025. We had the cheapest cabin option but there was nothing cheap about it. It was lovely and the cleaning crew were in there twice a day keeping it spotless. The food on board was incredible. I have never been so well fed. The staff were all cheerful and friendly and they worked very hard to make us all happy. Billy, our cruise director had a massive task presented by the flooding. He had to transfer all the guests from the Alruna to the Tialfi which involved a bus trip from Koblenz to Breisach. He travelled with us and made sure that it all went smoothly, then he remained on the Tialfi until the end of the cruise. He arranged busses to take us to the excursions that we were supposed to go to on the cruise and came along each time. On top of all that he had to deal with the guests some of which were not easy, but he remained calm and collected throughout. So top marks to Billy for a difficult job well done. The team on board the Tialfi did a great job of making us feel better about our altered itinerary. When we arrived from the Alruna they served mocktails at the door and had put a welcome card and bag of chocolates in every cabin. Every time we came back from one of our bus excursions, they would be waiting with either mocktails or macarons. Viking are simply amazing, and I am recommending them to all my friends.Show more
