Thank you so much for this detailed and wonderful review! We're thrilled that your 7-day Kilimanjaro trek via the Machame Route with Kilisa Tours & Safaris was such an exceptional experience from start to finish. You've captured exactly what makes the Machame Route so special — the dramatic shift from lush rainforest to alpine desert and finally the arctic summit zone is truly one of the most scenic climbs on Mount Kilimanjaro. We're especially glad the itinerary's pacing supported proper acclimatization, since that's such a critical factor for a successful summit push to Uhuru Peak. At Kilisa Tours & Safaris, we design our Kilimanjaro climbing itineraries — including the Machame Route — with safety, acclimatization, and summit success as our top priorities. Thank you for choosing us for your Mount Kilimanjaro adventure, and congratulations again on reaching the summit! Warm regards, The Kilisa Tours Team

    Asked on May 23rd, 2026

we are 2 people wanting to visit Tanzania for 3 weeks, we want to visit Kilimanjaro, Tanzania and do a Safari. However, I am myself french but my partner is iranian. Meaning she needs to get a referal visa for Tanzania. Could you please help me with the invitation letter? How does it go? Do we need to book? Do we need to explain you our trip, with arrivals and departures?

    Tour Details
    Visa
    • Kilisa Tours & SafarisOperatorWritten May 2026

Regarding the referral visa for your partner, yes, we can help provide the invitation documents required for the Tanzanian visa application process.

In order to prepare the invitation letter and supporting documents correctly, we will need the following information from both travelers:

Full names exactly as written in the passports
      Passport copies
      Nationalities
      Dates of birth
      Planned arrival and departure dates
Expected itinerary in Tanzania (Kilimanjaro climb, safari destinations, Zanzibar if applicable, etc.)
      Intended accommodation or tour arrangements
Arrival flight details if already available

Normally, it is recommended to confirm or reserve your tour program before we issue the invitation letter, as the documents usually include trip details and travel arrangements within Tanzania.

For the referral visa process specifically, approval may take longer than a standard tourist visa, so we strongly advise starting the application process well in advance of your September 2026 departure.

      TravelerWritten May 2026

Is it possible to cancel the tour if for any reason, the visa gets refused?

Since we want to do a Kilimanjaro hike, visit Tanzania and do a safari, what would be the recommendation of the order we do all 3? We would arrive from Germany, we would be jet lagged, etc... Regarding our fitness level, we are sport active, we like to run and are used to hikes, but we are not climbers. I am myself not used to much to heights, breathing and being active was hard for me in Peru but my partner is used to the mountain hikes in Iran.

About the safari, we read about the northern route? During 6/7 days. It would be our first safari.

    • C

      Clare

      TravelerWritten May 2026

you are allowed to apply for the visa on her behalf? Meaning we do not have to apply it through the official website?

    • Kilisa Tours & SafarisOperatorWritten May 2026

For a referral visa, we can assist by preparing and submitting the supporting application documents on her behalf here in Tanzania, including the invitation letter and required local supporting documents.

However, the final visa application itself is still linked to the official Tanzania Immigration system and approval must come directly from the Immigration authorities.

In most cases, the process works together between the applicant and the local host/ Us tour operator. We will guide you step by step to make the process as smooth as possible and ensure all required documents are correctly prepared.

      TravelerWritten May 2026

regarding the safari, we really want to see the baby season, but it's early next year? When is actually the baby season that still is a dry season, too?

    • Kilisa Tours & SafarisOperatorWritten June 2026

The main baby season for the wildebeest migration is normally from late January to March in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu area, when thousands of calves are born. This period is excellent for seeing newborn animals and predator action.

However, this is usually considered part of the green season, so there can be some rain, especially in February and March. The landscape is very beautiful and wildlife viewing remains excellent.

If you would like to combine baby season with drier weather, the best balance is normally late January to early February. During this time, you can still experience the calving season while conditions are often relatively dry compared to later months.

Since you are planning for September 13, this will be a different migration experience. September is one of the best dry-season safari months, especially for river crossings in Northern Serengeti near the Mara River. Wildlife viewing is outstanding, but it is not the baby season.

Both seasons are very special, just with different highlights.

Is it possible to be picked up from Arusha, then continue onto the trek?

    Flights / Transfers
    Tour Details
    • Kilisa Tours & SafarisOperatorWritten March 2026

Yes, it is absolutely possible to arrange your pick-up from Arusha before starting the trek. Our team can collect you from your hotel or any agreed location in Arusha and transfer you to Moshi, where the trek briefing and final preparations will take place before heading to the mountain gate the following morning. The transfer from Arusha to Moshi is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, and it is a common arrangement for many of our climbers who are staying in Arusha prior to the climb.

Can 70+ years old tourists climb Kilimanjaro?

    Age Range
    • Kilisa Tours & SafarisOperatorWritten July 2019

Yes, there are travellers in their 70s and 80s who summit Kilimanjaro every year. However, it is recommended to seek professional medical advice first to ensure the person gets clearance from doctor. If they decide to trek the Kilimanjaro, it is also recommended to take one of the longer routes which provide more time for acclimatization.
