Dear Christina, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review of your recent Isle of Skye, Loch Ness & Inverness 5 day tour experience. We are delighted to read that you had found your driver guide Ali P friendly. We will be sure to pass on your kind words. I am sorry to hear your comments about the steam train. I can see that this tour did not have the option of the steam train as we replaced this with the Scotrail train which all passengers boarded on the tour. With regards to your comments about the ferry, it is unfortunate that we did not get to take the ferry on this tour as this was cancelled by the ferry operator and was outwith our control. As such we travelled on the coach to Skye instead via coach. Whilst we appreciate your comments, all of our tours have 1 driver/guide and are trained as such to drive safely and to explain the history, culture of Scotland at the same time. Thank you again for your feedback which we will share with our operations team. Kind Regards Keith, Reservations, Highland Explorer Tours

Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, we appreciate your feedback on the 5 day tour and we are glad that the accomodation was suitable for your mobility. Our accomodations are usually within 1 mile of the centre with local taxi available if required. Our daily itineraries are designed to strike a balance between travel time and scenic, historical and cultural stops. We aim to arrive in the early evening to accomodations and your feedback on arrival times is something we will take in to account for our planning so we can be mindful of free time in the evening. Our driver guides will often squeeze an extra stop in here and there too so that can also have an impact on arrival time. Our driver guides are very passionate about all things Scotland and try to cover a lot of varied topics throughout the tour, we will reiterate to our team though that it is important to strike a balance of sharing information and allowing Scotlands beauty to do the talking too. Kind regards, Louise

Hello, we appreciate you taking the time to write a review and we very much appreciate feedback. Our 5 day tour aims to take in some of the best of the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye and strives to strike a balance between travel time and experience as well. Allowing time for travellers to explore the natural and historical sights. Culloden Battlefield forms a significant part of Highland history and when visiting the museum, artefacts room and the battlefield we have found that 90 minutes is an appropriate length of stop. We are glad that you enjoyed the beauty of Scotland and that Liz was good company throughout the tour sharing her knowledge and ensuring you had a lovely time. Kind regards, Louise

Do you provide transport to and from the airport at each end of the tour?

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten July 2026

Insurance would be something you would sort independently.

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten July 2026

You do stop at the Kelpies, Callander, Falls of Dochart, Tyndrum and Glen Coe on day one. Fort William, Mallaig on day two. Kilt Rock, Old Man of Storr, Portree and Dundreggan on day three. Clansman Harbour with the option of a cruise across Loch Ness, Beauly, Culloden and Clava Cairns on day four. Highland Folk Museum, Blair Athol Distillery and Dunkeld on day five. We do however reserve the right to modify this as per our terms and conditions.

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten July 2026

We do not offer transport to the airport at the end of the tour but the drop off point is nearby multiple methods of getting to the airport. We generally advise not to have any onward travel for up to 3 hours in the event of any unexpected delays.

How does one get from the airport to your tour?

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten July 2026

The easiest way would be to get the tram or 100 bus. Both are a short distance to the departure location. However, we would caution against arriving the day of your tour.

    Asked on June 20th, 2026

When best time of year visit scotland?

    Tour Details
    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten June 2026

Our tour operates between April-October as a larger group tour with up to 34 passengers on one of our Midi coaches, and also October-March as a winter version as a small group tour with up to 16 passengers.

In terms of visiting Scotland, each season offers visitors a different experience. During the peak summer months, visitor numbers can be higher which often results in high demand for accommodation and higher overall costs. Budget conscious travellers may therefore opt for the quieter shoulder months.

During the winter, the locations visited can be less busy which offers a more authentic experience. Our driver guides also benefit from fewer crowds, which can mean some extra bonus stops. Do note however that the winter months can be more unpredictable weather-wise, with more extreme weather conditions. This can make scenery very dramatic, but also can effect access/visibility. Rest assured, we are experienced in operating tours in these conditions. Some attractions may be closed during the winter months, so travel during peak season allows you to maximise your sightseeing experience.

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten May 2026

If you were to cancel your multi-day tour more than 45 days prior to departure, Tour Radar will keep your deposit but can refund the rest.
If you were to cancel 45-22 days before departure, we will keep 25% of the total cost, therefore you would be refunded 75% of the total amount.
If you were to cancel with 21 days or less before your tour, there would be no refund.

    Asked on May 6th, 2026

I understand that meals are not included in the price, and that is OK with me. But I see that breakfast is also not included, does that mean that we have to pay breakfast every morning in the B&B? And how are the other meals arranged, does the entire group take the same menu?

    Meals
    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten May 2026

If you are booking with B&B accommodation breakfast will be included as a part of your stay.

There will be a designated lunch stop which will be your best opportunity to grab something to eat but this will not necessarily all be at one place. Dinner you will have free reign to go wherever after the day of tour from their accommodation.

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten April 2026

There is a twin room available for this tour so you would be able to book 2x passengers into the private twin room at a B&B and the last passenger into the dorm. Whatever option you went with this would be for all 4 nights.

If we take the Jun 4th tour and take the family 3 room, on the last day what time do we typically return? Will we have time to catch a train from Edinburgh to London the same night? I am not familiar with the train frequency/availability

    • Highland Explorer ToursOperatorWritten April 2026

You should return to Edinburgh at 5.30PM on the last day. There are trains around every 30-60 minutes or so to London. We typically advise not having any onward travel for up to 3 hours after the scheduled return time in the event of any unexpected delays. However, depending when you book there will be plenty of train options.
