What type of Private Vehicle is used for this tour? How many people would there be on the tour?

    Group size
    Transport
    • There is a maximum of 12 travellers allowed on this tour, averaging about 10 per departure.

For this trip we use 15-passenger vans for up to 12 people plus the Expedition Leader. For groups of 8 and more travellers, we also use a trailer to carry luggage. These durable vehicles allow us to drive on most types of roads in North America. Each van has a front passenger seat and 4 benches that will accommodate 3 people each with mandatory seat belts to keep us secure and safe. No standing is permitted in these vehicles. This is not a physically demanding journey, but with limited space in the van, long drive days can be difficult. Please take note of the travel times and distances in the above itinerary. There is air conditioning to cool things down on warm days to keep everyone more comfortable. Despite some of the long days, most travellers feel that the diversity of the North American landscape, culture, and wildlife are all well worth the experience!

Travelling from Australia and need to be in Boston for a wedding on 19 September. Can travel either side, probably solo but not sure if my brother and his son will join us. I'm in my aged 67 and good at walking for a few klm a day but not so good climbing or rocky terrains. Is this trip suitable for us?

    • National Geographic Expeditions with G AdventuresOperatorWritten September 2025

The Journeys: Discover the Canadian Rockies trip is designed with an Average activity level. This means it generally involves walking tours in towns and national parks, plus some optional hikes. For example, there is a guided walk on the Athabasca Glacier and opportunities for light hikes in Jasper and Banff National Parks. These can involve uneven terrain, but all the more challenging activities are optional—you could always choose gentler alternatives. Based on what you've shared (comfortable walking a few kilometres a day, but preferring to avoid climbing or rocky paths), this trip could still be a good fit, as long as you're happy to skip or take easier options when the terrain looks too demanding. The tour also includes plenty of scenic drives, lake visits, and cultural stops that don't require strenuous activity. One important consideration is timing. The trip is 12 days and ends in Vancouver, so you'd want to allow a couple of extra days to comfortably fly on to Boston for your wedding on 19 September. We can certainly look at departure dates that align with this schedule.

Is there a waitlist for the July 2025 Heart of the Canadian Rockies and Alaska Cruise? What would be the cost for a solo traveller in a double room?

    • We do not book cruises, you will need to contact National Geographic Expeditions with Lindblad to speak about cruises. We only book National Geographic Journeys.
