A great way to see the real India, Interesting, educating and eye opening. It worked very well from start to finish. Karni our guide was always there to help and advise and organise. We saw the real India warts and all and loved every minute of it. This was our 2nd Intrepid tour (1st was China) we love the security of a guide but also like the small group we travel with (9 on the India tour comprising Germans, Aussies and Brits). We have found only good people on our tours who only help to enrich the whole experience. If you want 5 star hotels and laying by the pool this is NOT for you. If you love walking, exploring and seeing new cultures religions and people jump in and enjoy!

The Itinerary and tour itself is well planned and organised. The accommodation is of an acceptable standard for India. There are very few included meals and the guides used at the sites were very good. The bus used by Intrepid has no suspension and was extremely bumpy, so would recommend people sit in the front where the ride seemed to be a little better. Our biggest issue was with the training of Intrepids "leaders". We would prefer a guide with us not a "leader" who saw his job as only to take us from place to place and organise tour guides at the stops. He did not explain things as we were travelling on the bus, no passion for his country and didn't feel the need to let us know what was happening outside the bus during the many hours of travel. Our leader is a nice person who made an effort to recognise birthdays and help unwell members of the group but he mostly sat quietly on the bus unless we asked him questions. Intrepid should ensure that the "leader" explains the dangers of riding the metro and make sure that all women go into the women only carriages. Our "leader" did not do this and we had two women subjected to sexual assaults on the train. We have never felt so unsafe in all our years of travelling. We would not use Intrepid again nor recommend them to our friends.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re disappointed to read that you were not satisfied with your local leader. We purposely choose to use both leaders and local guides on our trips so that we can support the communities that we visit, and to make sure that we are getting the most knowledgeable person possible to guide you around specific sights. However, we do expect our local leaders to be a wealth of information, advice and tips throughout the trip (as well as celebrating birthdays and helping unwell passengers). It sounds like this was not the case for you, and we would love the opportunity to more fully understand your experience. Please feel free to contact our Customer Relations team who will be happy to further address your concerns: customerrelations@intrepidtravel.com Kind regards, Intrepid

Intrepid was recommended to us by our friends who had used them in different parts of the world but our tour of India left us disappointed and questioning if we would use them again. On the very first day of our tour the Intrepid “leader” took us on the first group activity, riding the Delhi metro at 8.30am. The train was so packed that we physically needed to force our way into the train and were extremely tightly packed in. Our group was separated due to the congestion. Getting out to the train was very dangerous as everyone from the middle of the carriage violently pushed out and we almost tripped getting out. Our “leader” did not mention that there was a special carriage for women only, until after our group made it to the designated stop and we found out they two of the women in our group had been subjected to sexual assaults. We have never felt so unsafe in all our travels. Our “leader” showed little concern about the assaults and carried on to the next train. This incident effected us all and higlighted the disrespect that Indian men have for women. During the whole tour, our “leader” sat quietly on the bus without offering much in the way of information about India. If asked, he would respond but he didn’t see it as his job to be a “tour guide”, he was there to “lead” us around and had really good tour guides take us through the beautiful forts, palaces and of course the amazing Taj Mahal. Our leader was a nice person and did make an effort to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries on the tour, we just would have liked a lot more included information as we drove for many kilometres wondering what was going on outside the bus. The accommodation was acceptable and of a good standard for India, although an included basic breakfast would be advantageous. The bus used on the tour had no suspension and we were tossed around quite a bit. Overall, I would not recommend this Intrepid tour. India itself is a very confronting place to visit with the pollution and poverty but there are some amazing things to see which makes it a worthwhile destination for the adventurous types.

I've had such a super time. For me travel is all about the people and Gaurang, our leader, was absolutely fantastic. He looked after every member of our group so well and had the patience of a saint. We all loved his surprises and sense of humor. I've fallen head over heals in love with India!

I took part in the Golden Triangle tour, as a solo female. Leave your preconceived ideas at home, you won't find them here. The trip took in some great locations and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. Be prepared for humidity, heat and organised chaos. Before choosing a group tour remember you will be with strangers, although you will make friends, and as such they don't want/need to know the intimate details of your life... there is such a thing as TMI! Please read the trip notes and be aware of customs, especially tipping and clothing... and remember that your behaviour choices impact/reflect on the other group members

Customer care ignores the traveller, would not recommend. Let me elaborate: 1, the fellow travellers contacted you in October 2015, that the starting hotel has inferior standards (please see the review of Hotel Kyron on Tripadvisor). According to the itinerary 3 days are planned here. 2, Before the trip, November 2016 I contacted your German colleagues that there are severe issues with the hotels. First they denied that they are aware of it, then after receiving the online reviews, they have taken no action. 3, During the tour I have contacted your colleagues that I do not intend to stay in Hotel Kyron with the fellow travellers, and to cover my costs I have asked for a 100 USD (=95EUR) refund. In my opinion for trip that costs more that 700 USD, it is an amicable amount. The good news about the rebooked hotel came a bit late. 4, Now I found that the offered amount is absurd, and it needs to be highlighted that Hotel Kyron got meanwhile some bad reviews from us on TripAdvisor and Google, where many of us are considered as senior reviewers. We mentioned that we ended up at that terrible place through Intrepid. In my opinion booking trips in that hotel in the future would be unwise, as the travellers can always refer that Intrepid is aware of the problem. Moreover they can even start chargeback processes at their credit processors against your company. In summary I would not travel again with Intrepid, for their inferior customer care, and not refunding properly the travellers.
