    We will be having a family meeting about this tour next weekend, but I wanted to connect with you before that. A bit of background - I am the mom of 5 children, ages 19-35. In our family, there are 4 males and 2 females. We are totally fine with either 3-star hotel accommodations or an apartment-style accommodation. We are on a budget, after all, as we no longer have his salary to support us. For hotel rooms, we would probably need 3 rooms, one for my daughter and me and two for the 4 boys. If we were to go with an apartment-style accommodation, it would be nice to have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living area. I think an apartment is preferable. As to other activities, my daughter and I absolutely LOVE wine (I have my WSET designation and would love to explore Otago and Hawkes Bay wineries). All of us really enjoy hiking - we did a lot of hiking as a family. We all love the mountains and scenic lake views. I'm not sure on our arrival date yet. It depends on a few factors to which we don't yet know the answers. I expect the latest we'd arrive would be December 25. If possible, it would be best to have the tour begin and end at the same point, so that we could more easily book our flights.

    We had our family meeting over the weekend, and this is what we compiled. Our budget is $8,500 CAD per person. 10+ day tour - we MAY be able to be in NZ for 10 days. North Island must-sees: Hobbiton, Weta, Wellington and environs ("Get off the road!", maybe Isengard park, possibly Dry Creek Quarry i.e. Helm's Deep, other LOTR sites), Mount Ruapehu – apparently this could include Mt. Doom slopes, Emyn Muil, part of Mordor? – we are not sure we actually want a floatplane tour – how much is this adding to the cost? And is it actually better than being able to see the slopes of Mount Doom close-up for ourselves? South Island must-sees: Queenstown and environs (and Glenorchy area) – e.g. Lothlorien, Fords of the Bruinen, Isengard, Rohirrim march to Helm's Deep, Paths of the Dead exit, "Aragorn's Cliff", Ithilien Camp. QUESTION: the location for the scene where the Haradrim and their Mumakil get ambushed by Faramir's Rangers – Uncle Jim has talked about this multiple times – is that in this area? Is it the same as the Ithilien Camp? The exact itinerary for these locations is probably negotiable – obviously we want to see as many as possible. Nice-to-haves: Edoras i.e. Mount Sunday, Poolburn (near Queenstown), Dimholt Road, Nen Hithoel location in Mavora Lakes, The Pelennor Fields (Twizel/Lake Pukaki). Other questions: There are some local tour companies in the area, for example, Pure Glenorchy and Nomad Safaris – I was just curious if our tour company sets us up for tours with those local companies when we're in the area, or if our tour company just does everything on their own. Is there a possibility of a few of us staying a few extra days or an extra week or so? This would probably be for taking in some of the additional sites under "nice to haves".

    the longer duration would work for 2 people in the family. They can actually stay longer than the rest of us. Hence the division between "must-see" and "nice to see". Does this help?

  This more specialized tour on LOTR is better. How long is it . They wish to spend 15 days in New Zeland since they live on the other side of the World (Colombia) can we organize some tour/trip with this time frame ?
