Itinerary
- Day 1
Cusco
You'll arrive in Cusco and meet your group at a 2 pm welcome meeting where you'll connect with your trip leader and other travelers. From there, head out on a leader-led walk through the city to see Qoricancha temple, San Pedro market, the main square, 12 Angled Stone, Regocijo Square, and San Blas Square. Later, you'll get a trek briefing at Casa Intrepid, then the evening is yours to grab dinner with the group and settle in.

- Day 2
Soraypampa to Salkantaypampa
An early pickup takes you on a scenic drive to Mollepata, where the Salkantay Trek begins. You'll reach Soraypampa at 3900 m/12,795 ft with views of snow-capped Salkantay and Veronica peaks. After breakfast, hike to Humantay Lake to see the turquoise waters, then return for lunch at Soraypampa. From there, continue hiking to Salkantaypampa in the glacier valleys, where you'll have great stargazing later that night.

- Day 3
Ascent to Highest Point
You'll hike to the trek's highest point at 4620 m/15,157 ft through a rocky valley. Along the way, look for chinchillas and take in panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, including Salkantay Peak at 6217 m/20,397 ft. At the summit, you'll participate in an Andean Pachamama ritual. After lunch and some rest, hike through cloud forest with moss-draped trees and descend to Chaullay at 2900 m/9,514 ft in the rainforest.

- Day 4
Jungle to Lucmabamba
After breakfast, you'll follow the Salkantay River into the jungle toward La Playa, hiking through thick forest and small family hamlets where locals offer fresh tropical fruits. Keep an eye out for the Cock of the Rocks, Peru's national bird. The day ends in Lucmabamba at 2100 m/6,890 ft, a coffee-growing town where you'll harvest fresh beans, peel them by hand, then roast and grind your own cup of coffee.

Landmarks Salkantay River - Day 5
Llactapata to Aguas Calientes
Start early and trek to Llactapata at 2700 m/8,858 ft along a well-preserved section of the Inca Trail. Climb a ridge with views of Santa Teresa Valley, butterflies, and blooming orchids. From the pass, you'll see Machu Picchu in the distance, which rivals the famous Sun Gate view. Check out the Llactapata site, still partially covered in jungle vines. Then descend to Rio Aobamba, head to Hidroelectrica for lunch, take a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, and spend the afternoon exploring the open-air market for local crafts.

- Day 6
Machu Picchu
Take the bus up the steep zigzagging road to Machu Picchu. Before touring the site, climb Machu Picchu Mountain at 3051 m/10,010 ft, the largest peak surrounding the ruins. You'll get great views, see Andean flora, and experience fewer crowds than other viewpoints. Tour the ruins with a local guide who'll explain the approximately 200 houses and temples. Return by bus to town for a free afternoon, then take the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a private transfer back to Cusco for a final group dinner celebrating the trek.
