Tirano
You'll start in Tirano, a charming town in Valtellina valley sitting close to the Swiss border. Walk through the old streets and see the Renaissance Basilica della Madonna di Tirano, then check out the medieval Sforza walls and Santa Maria Castle. The San Martino church bell tower gives you nice views of the town. If you're interested, there's an option to take the famous Bernina Express red train that winds through the Alpine landscape, which is worth considering for the scenery alone.
