    You'll have the day to yourself along the French Riviera. The Mediterranean coastline stretches from Toulon all the way to the Italian border, so there's plenty to see at your own pace. Whether you want to relax on the beach, wander through coastal towns, or just take in the views, the time is yours to use however you'd like.

  2. Day 2

    Nice

    A guided tour takes you through Nice's old town, where narrow winding streets and baroque churches fill the Vieux Nice area. The architecture here has stayed largely the same since the 1700s, so you're walking through centuries of history. Your guide will point out the notable buildings and explain the neighborhood's character as you make your way through.

  3. Day 3

    French Riviera - Aix-en-Provence to Arles

    You'll travel by motorcoach toward your Avalon Suite Ship, with a stop in Aix-en-Provence along the way. There you'll get a guided tour through Cezanne's hometown, seeing the places that inspired the artist. After that, you'll continue on to Arles where your ship is waiting and you'll board for the start of your river cruise.

  4. Day 4

    Arles

    Meet your Adventure Host at the Adventure Center to pick an activity. You can join a power walk through Arles, try a painting workshop learning van Gogh techniques, or take a guided walk to see the Roman Amphitheater. After your choice, you'll have free time to grab a coffee at Le Café Van Gogh before the ship sails to Avignon later that day.

    Avignon

    Avignon is your base for the day, and you've got options for how to spend it. You can bike around with your Adventure Host or take a guided tour of the fortress and the Palace of the Popes. If you want something different, there are optional trips to Pont du Gard's Roman aqueduct or the wine cellars at Chateauneuf-du-Pape. You'll have free time to check out the art and culture around town, including the medieval Pont Saint-Bénézet bridge. Head back to the ship for entertainment in the evening.

    The morning is relaxed as you sail to Viviers, a small French village. You can either walk up to the hilltop Cathedral with your Adventure Host or join a guided tour of the Old Town where you'll taste local food. Later, the ship continues cruising toward Tain l'Hermitage.

    In Tournon, one of France's oldest medieval cities, you'll choose between a morning hike or a guided walk around the 16th-century castle. After that, the ship heads to Lyon early in the afternoon. Once there, a French chef does a pastry demonstration. That evening brings a French cuisine tasting dinner with wine pairing led by a Certified Sommelier, plus live entertainment afterward.

Spend free time biking around the town squares or along the rivers. This evening, you'll have dinner onboard inspired by chef Paul Bocuse before the ship heads to Tournus.

    We would like to thank our Statesman Attendee that took care of all our needs in our room 107. He was friendly and did an amazing job, Marisio our waiter served us with the highest respect and friendliness. Over all Avalon have very good staff and always a smile- nothing too much trouble. The ship was so clean, food was spectacular. We had a surprise group of singers Gwen and Charles who brought great entertainment. The other entertainer was amazing. Loved the top deck BBQ. We met lots of new friends aboard. Thank you Avalon for a trip well executed.
