Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Lhasa

Your guide will meet you at Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Railway Station and drive you to your hotel. The route takes you along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, Tibet's largest and longest river, so you'll catch some nice views during the transfer. Once you check in, it's best to take it easy and let your body adjust to the high altitude. If you're feeling up to it, you can take a short walk around the city with a light backpack, just make sure you drink plenty of water.

    Start point
Lhasa Gonggar Airport (LXA) ལྷ་ས་གོང་དཀར་རྫོང་, Shannan Shi, Tibet Autonomous Region 850700, China (airport, 09:00 - 18:00)

  2. Day 2

    Lhasa

Start the day at Potala Palace, the former winter home of the Dalai Lama and the symbolic center of Lhasa. Built in the 7th century, it holds gilded burial stupas and a meditation cave worth seeing. After lunch, head to Jokhang Temple, also from the 7th century, where you can view the precious Buddha Sakyamuni statue at age 12. The afternoon finishes at Barkhor Street, a busy pilgrimage and shopping area where locals walk the Kora and you can browse Tibetan handicrafts.

  3. Day 3

    Lhasa to Lhatse

After breakfast, you'll drive toward Lhatse through Shigatse on a long journey with strict speed regulations, which actually gives you good chances for roadside photography. In Shigatse, stop at Tashilunpo Monastery, home to the Panchen Lama and the largest monastery in the region. From there, continue driving to Lhatse County where you'll stay for the night.

Following a rest overnight, you'll drive to Everest Base Camp at 5,200m. The route passes through old Tingri and reaches Rongbuk Monastery at 5,154m, the highest monastery in the world. You'll have clear views of Mt. Everest here, and when the weather cooperates, the golden sunset over the peak creates something really special.

Assuming decent weather, you can catch the sunrise over Mt. Everest early in the morning. Then you'll drive back toward Shigatse, passing through Sakya County to visit Sakya Monastery, the primary monastery of the Sakyapa school. Its walls are distinctive because they're painted in red, white, and cyan colors, which is why this school earned the name 'Colorful Buddhism.' After about 3 hours of driving, you'll arrive in Shigatse for the night.

  • 7 Days Lhasa Shigatse Everest Base Camp Sakya Private Tour reviewer 1
    · May 7th, 2025
Our family of three had a great trip to Tibet. We’re all very happy with it! First, the accommodation was exactly as described—no exaggerations. Our guide, Dorj, picked us up from the airport right on time. From that moment, we were well taken care of. Dorj was full of energy and knew so much about Tibet. He answered all our questions. The driver was also very kind—he even helped us with our luggage. Overall, it was a really nice trip!
