Itinerary
- Day 1
Keflavik to Borgarnes
Pick up your rental car at Keflavik International Airport and drive through the lava fields of the Reykjanes Peninsula. There's an option to stop at the Blue Lagoon and soak in the warm mineral-rich waters if that interests you, then continue on to your accommodation near Borgarnes. The drive gives you a first real sense of Iceland's landscape right from the start.

Golden Circle
After breakfast, head out to the Golden Circle route where you'll see Iceland's most famous natural sites. Start at Thingvellir National Park to walk along where the tectonic plates meet and see where the parliament was founded back in 930 AD. From there, you'll drive to Braarfoss Waterfall with its bright turquoise water, then on to the Geysir geothermal area where Strokkur geyser shoots up every 5 minutes or so. Wrap up the day at Gullfoss waterfall, which drops from the Langjokull glacier with real power behind it.

- Day 3
South Coast
After breakfast, drive to Iceland's South Coast to see some dramatic waterfalls and beaches. You'll start at Seljalandsfoss where it's possible to walk behind the falls if you don't mind getting wet. Next is Skogafoss, a 60-meter waterfall with stairs up to a good viewpoint. Later you'll reach Reynisfjara black sand beach where there are basalt columns and puffins visible from June through August. There's also the option to do a glacier hike or visit the DC3 plane wreck if either appeals to you.

- Day 4
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
After breakfast, travel to the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon area. The lagoon itself is about 200 meters deep and filled with huge icebergs that broke off from Breidamerkurjokull glacier. You can book a boat tour through the icebergs or just walk along the shore to take in the views. Cross the road to Diamond Beach afterward, where icebergs wash up on shore and create a glittering landscape of white and blue ice chunks scattered across black sand.

- Day 5
Reykjavik
Your final day is flexible, so you can spend time in Reykjavik doing last-minute activities or shopping before heading to the airport. Return your rental car to Keflavik International Airport and depart. You'll leave with memories of Iceland's varied geography and landscapes from the past few days.
