We felt like the trip was interesting, but we were not informed about travel plans until the last minute. I know that there may have been many moving pieces, especially with flight cancelations, but honestly we were not sure if we would be traveling by bus, van or private transfer until we began each leg. The guides along the way were all helpful and kind, but we spent so much time driving to each area that we barely got a chance to explore each city. I think a minimum stay of two nights at fewer locations could have improved our experience significantly. We ended up skipping most evening meals because we arrived late and were too tired to eat. One guide instead of 5 may have given more continuity. The city guides were all well versed and knowledgeable. The traditional museum (show) in Tirana was not anything special. Our favorite stops were in Kosovo and the Monasteries. We enjoyed Skopji and wandering the city. The best hotels were by far the 1st and last ones. Where we stayed in Sofia was very depressed, and noisy. We enjoyed our main guide Igor.Show more

  As you are traveling from the Caribbean, we recommend bringing comfortable layered clothing suitable for spring weather in the Balkans and Southern Europe. Early April can bring a mix of mild, sunny days and cooler mornings or evenings, so it is best to pack: light sweaters or jackets, comfortable walking shoes, casual daywear, a small umbrella or light rain jacket.
