  Our guide Mina was enthusiastic, patient and knowledgeable with the history and site information, and this made each site visit more interesting and memorable. However, we felt that there was only a very limited amount of "free time" at each visit to appreciate and take our pictures. On average, we were given no more than 30 minutes before being told to meet back for the bus. The main disappointment with my cruise was the stop at Edfu temple. The tour itinerary stated we would take a horse carriage ride to the entrance of the temple as we disembarked the ship. We did not have the horse carriage ride and was instead ushered onto a mini bus and given no explanation at that time or tereafter. The ship Shams Nile was in average condition and upkeep. Our cabin was not 5 star as advertised. It was dated and worn and ready for refurbish and update. The windows did not shut fully and the wardrobe doors and drawers were wobbly. The dining options were sufficient. However there could be better ventilation when the chefs were cooking at the station as the dining room was stuffy after the frying. Overall, the cruise was a memorable activity and the sights were worthy of the cruise. I'd hope the operator would consider a refurbish of the cabins and ship presentation, which would likely lead to more recommendations by previous guests.Show more

  The overall itinerary for the cruise was hectic. Early starts and not as much time as I would like at the different attractions. I feel like it is the same for most of the itinerary for all the cruises on the Nile. At least, you got to visit the sights without having to organise the transport yourself or have to haggle with the drivers. The guide, Mina, was very passionate and knowledgeable. It was good to have that as part of the tour to know what you are looking at at the sights. The boat for the cruise, it stated a 5 star cabin but the overall state of the cruise was more like a 2 star. With that said, it was clean just dated. The cruise does not provide you with any bottled water. You will need to purchase it or bring your own on board. The food on the cruise was okay. You got to taste the local dishes. There was an alright variety of choices. They could have turned the air con on when they were frying food for that meal, which made it stuffy.Show more
