Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Madrid to Porto

    You'll leave Madrid and head toward Avila, where the medieval walls and old town are the main draw. After exploring there, the drive continues to Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its university and architecture. You'll have time to wander around on your own before heading to Porto, Portugal for the night.

  2. Day 2

    Porto

    After breakfast at your hotel, a guided tour takes you through Porto's historic center, hitting the Cathedral, Stock Exchange building, and Santa Clara Church. Then you'll get on one of the scenic BlueBoats cruises along the River Douro and visit a Port Wine Cellar for tasting. The rest of the day is yours to do what you want.

    Following breakfast, you drive to Coimbra, home to one of Europe's oldest universities and the birthplace of Fado music, with free time to check it out. From there, you'll continue to Fatima, a major pilgrimage site. You'll see the Basilica, the Cova da Iria where the Virgin Mary appeared, and the Chapel of the Apparitions with the tombs of three shepherds. If you're interested, there's a candlelight procession in the evening you can attend.

  4. Day 4

    Fatima to Lisbon

    After breakfast, you'll visit the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site with Gothic and Manueline architecture. Next is Nazare, a fishing town where you'll have free time to explore. Then it's on to Alcobaca's Gothic church and Cistercian monastery, also a UNESCO site from the 12th century. You'll arrive in Lisbon by evening.

In the afternoon, you'll have time to walk through the Alfama Quarter on your own, going through narrow streets and old buildings where you'll find traditional taverns and authentic Fado music.

    You leave Lisbon heading to Caceres, a UNESCO World Heritage city with a mix of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic, and Italian architecture. Walk through the Plaza Mayor and check out the Medieval Quarter of the Old Town. After that, you'll drive back to Madrid, and the tour ends there.
