Itinerary
- Day 1
Quito to Central Andes
Start by checking your equipment in the morning, then drive from Quito into the Central Andes heading toward your first base camp. This converted hacienda sits at 3,125m/10,250ft altitude and you'll be surrounded by horses, ducks, and llamas while you settle in for the night.

- Day 2
Central Andes to Chimborazo Foothills
Head south on the Panamericana to Ambato, then take the scenic Via Flores route to reach your second base camp at 3,835m/12,580ft in the lower foothills of Chimborazo. The afternoon and evening are free for acclimatizing, so you can do optional hikes to nearby lakes, walk through mountain forests, or go after some 4,000+ meter peaks around camp if you're feeling up to it.

- Day 3
Chimborazo Mountain Hut
Drive through the landscape to the slopes of Chimborazo, reaching the parking lot at 4,800m/15,750ft. From there, hike for 45 minutes to the Whymper hut at 5,000m/16,405ft where you'll stay the night. Keep in mind the upper Whymper hut doesn't always stay open, so you might end up at the lower Hermanos Carrel hut at 4,800m/15,750ft or a high-altitude tent camp at 5,300m/17,390ft instead.

Chimborazo Summit to Quito
After a light breakfast, start the summit push at midnight. The climb takes 8 to 9 hours and gains roughly 1,300 meters of altitude across glaciers and steep snow saddles. On clear days you can see the Amazon lowlands and the Pacific Ocean from up top. Coming down takes about 4 to 5 hours, then you'll drive back through the Andes to Quito.
