Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Cartagena

You'll arrive in Cartagena and get your bearings in this UNESCO World Heritage city. The colonial architecture is everywhere you look, and the fortified walls tell the history of this Caribbean port. Spend time walking around to see the key neighborhoods and landmarks that make this place feel so different from anywhere else. It's a good day to just orient yourself and get a sense of how the city is laid out.

    Start point
Calle 70a 3-88, 130002 Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia (Pick up at Rafael Nuñez International Airport)

    Optional Activities

    • Explore San Felipe de Barajas Fortress
    • Visit Cathedral of Cartagena
    • Boat trips to Rosario Islands
    • Coral reef diving

  2. Day 2

    Cartagena

This morning you'll head to La Popa Monastery, which sits about 460 feet above the city and gives you views across Cartagena. From there, you'll make your way to San Felipe de Barajas Fortress to see the old defense systems and tunnels. Later, you'll have a couple hours to walk through the historic center on your own, where the colonial streets and small squares are really where you get a feel for the city.

  3. Day 3

    Tayrona National Park

You're heading out to Tayrona National Park where jungle meets the Caribbean. The hikes here take you through thick forest, and if you're lucky you'll spot some wildlife. Cabo San Juan is where you'll find yourself on the beach, surrounded by green hills and water. The Kogi people have lived in these mountains for centuries, and there's a lot of history and culture tied to this landscape.

Next comes a 1.5-hour hike up to a viewpoint with good views of the area. In the afternoon, you'll tube down the river, heading toward where it opens up to the sea. It's a nice mix of hiking and water time all in one day.

There's a chance to swim at Pozo Azul, which is a natural pool fed by waterfalls. You can also visit some of the organic coffee farms and actually taste the coffee they grow.
