    Asked on June 28th, 2026

How much is airfare? Is this rate for one person staying in a single room? Is there an extension available?

    Flights / Transfers

    Single supplement
    Tour Details
    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

The Almaty-Dushanbe flight prices, if you wish to book through us, will be 200 EUR per ticket with 23 kg of checked-in luggage. If you mean international airfare prices, please let us know your departure airport, and we can let you know the prices.

When you book for one person in a single room, we have a single supplement, which you need to pay to remain in a solo room. If you are willing to share with a fellow traveller of the same gender, and we find a match, the supplement will be removed.

We have possible extensions, such as Mary/Merv.

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

We do offer a tour to the Caucasus countries. For the Caucasus trip, we have availability on the 10th of April and the 8th of May.

  • S

    Sarah

    Asked on June 20th, 2026

As an American, I like to know how ro know if you can help ma to get a visa in Tukmenistan. The rest of the countries. I don't need a visa About the domestic flights can you help to purchase the ticket?

    Flights / Transfers
    Visa
    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

Actually, the visa application process is included in the price, and we 100% assist with that. After making an official booking, we will send you an additional message, which will require you to send some information, such as a passport scan, a photo of yourself, etc. This will help us to apply, through our local partner, for a Letter of Invitation (LOI). With this LOI, you get a visa on arrival at the border, after paying the visa fees, which are around 80-115 USD per person.

The Almaty-Dushanbe flight ticket is not included in the package price. You have two options on how to proceed here. Firstly, you can have us book it for you, which will come with an additional service fee. Or if you wish to book it yourself, we will guide you to the website and let you know which flight to book.

  • D

    Diana

    Asked on June 13th, 2026

How much overall is the average expense for - airfare, the tour, visas, other misc fees for a domestic airfare or entrance fees.

    Flights / Transfers
    Price / Availability
    Visa
    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

      Here are the price breakdowns:
      - main package price is 2,490 EUR
      - single supplement: 520 EUR
      - Local Payment, which is payable in cash on the spot to the tour leader: 300 EUR
      - The visa application process for Turkmenistan is included in the price package; you have to pay the visa fees, for the visa upon arrival at the border (for 2026 rates are between 80-140 USD, depending on nationality). When we receive your passport, we can confirm if you will need any additional visas. Those visas are to be covered by yourself, and it will be your responsibility to apply for them. We can provide help for that for an additional fee.
      - The domestic flight from Almaty to Dushanbe cannot be confirmed as the price is fluctuating and is confirmed only before booking. Here, for this flight, you can book it through us (rates for 2026 are between 150 and 200 EUR), or you can book it on your own. We will provide all the needed information for you to make the booking if you would like to proceed as such.
      - Entrance fees for 2026 were not included in the package price, and we advise our clients to bring between 70 and 90 EUR for those.

  • K

    Kristin

    Asked on June 1st, 2026

Can I add flights to the tour (departing Sydney Aus.?

    Flights / Transfers
    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

The departure date 18 September is still not a guaranteed departure. The dates we have right now that are guaranteed are: 25th of September, 28th of September

    • K

      Kristin

      TravelerWritten June 2026

Flights from Sydney to the Bishkek and returning from Ashpagat is what I was enquiring about. Also if the dates I book do not get confirmed, what happens? Do you offer to move us to the next closest date? Reason for these clarifications is due to aligning flights to the date. If we book flights and the dates change, in the current environment, changing flights can be expensive.

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

What we do regarding international flights on non confirmed trips is that once the tour becomes a guaranteed departure we inform the travelers here on TourRadar. Booking the flights is usually the last thing that travelers do. There is also a date on 24 August, if that interests you that is guaranteed. Also when you decide on a date I can give you a price for the flights but please note that the price will be for a 24-hour window period because of the changes.

    • K

      Kristin

      TravelerWritten June 2026

I would rather book for 18-Sep. If not, then 25-Sep works (just) 28-Sep does not work. What is the next step from here? Should I book for 25th and you will move me to 18-Sep of that goes ahead? Also, appreciate if you can advise what time we start in Bishkek on Day 1 and finish in Ashgabat on Day 21. This will help me decide if I need a hotel on either end.

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten June 2026

The hotel check-in on Day 1 is at 2PM. After the check-in there will be a city tour of Bishkek. Day 21 is only for your departure flight and there is nothing on the itinerary. Please note that there is only one airport transfer included on Day 21.

Please clarify the cancellation policy. If I cancel in 90 days vs 30 days what is the policy?

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten May 2026

      Here are our cancellation policies:
If the client cancels the booking, all deposits, fees, and additional bookings are non-refundable under any circumstances.
Cancellation charges will apply and are calculated from the date the Company receives written notice of cancellation. Charges are based on the total tour price per person canceling and exclude amendment fees and insurance premiums (which remain non-refundable):
      a) 60 days or more before tour start date – deposit is non-refundable
      b) 59–45 days before tour start date – 50% of the total tour price or loss of deposit, whichever is higher
      c) 44 days or less before tour start date – 100% of the total tour price is non-refundable

Yes, on Day 18, you will travel into the Karakum Desert to experience the spectacular Darvaza Gas Crater, enjoy a fire-cooked dinner beside it, and camp overnight in a nearby tent or yurt.

Turkmenistan Visa: We will assist you with the entire process. We'll send you a form to complete, which we will use to secure your official Letter of Invitation (LOI). You will then receive and pay for your actual visa at the border. The fee ranges from $80 to $140 USD depending on your nationality and must be paid in cash.

Accommodation: Aside from the authentic yurt camping experience at the desert crater, other accommodations throughout the tour are comfortable, 3-star rated hotels or guesthouses.

Is the tour suitable for someone in their 80s traveling alone? Which countries would I need a visa for as a US citizen and do you provide a visa support letter for these countries?

The 5 Stans tour is an incredible journey covering five countries: Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. While we have successfully welcomed travelers as old as 80 on this trip, a reasonable level of physical fitness is necessary to ensure your comfort. Turkmenistan: All nationalities require a visa. We will apply for a pre-authorization letter on your behalf. You will receive and pay for the visa upon arrival at the border. The cost ranges from $80 to $140 USD, depending on your nationality. Please note that this must be paid in cash, and the USD banknotes must be new and in pristine condition.

Can I leave at any time on the last day of the tour? Can you assist in arranging domestic flights for the tour? What are your recommended arrival times at the airport for both the first and last day of the tour?

      What is the cancellation policy?

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten May 2026

Day 21 Departure: Yes, it is absolutely fine to fly out at any time on Day 21 of the tour. Almaty to Dushanbe Flight: We can certainly book this domestic flight for you for 150 EUR, or you are welcome to book it yourself. The flight details are Air Astana (KC131) on August 30th at 2:05 PM (14:05). On Day 1, standard hotel check-in begins at 2:00 PM, so we recommend arriving just before noon so you can head straight to the hotel. On your final day, standard check-out is at 11:00 AM, so we recommend scheduling your departure around that time.

I am flying out of los angeles. I checked airlines. It seemed like the Turkish airline is the best. But i find it very hard to coordinate the timing of my arrival to be in time for my tour. I should have arrival on the twenty fourth of august. All the flights I looked at would arrive later than that. So what do you suggest? Also, you said that insurance would be booked after my booking. I would like to know how much insurance is before I booked a trip.

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten May 2026

Day 1 of the tour begins on August 24th. Day 2 starts early the following morning as we head east from Bishkek. Our first stop is the historic Burana Tower (about 80 km away). While it is highly recommended to join the group on Day 1, it is possible for you to join us on Day 2 instead. However, please keep in mind that if you choose to join on the second day, you will be responsible for arranging and paying for your own transport to catch up with the group.

    • Penguin TravelOperatorWritten May 2026

The Single Supplement, as stated on the website page, is 490 EUR.
Officially, we have no age limit, but we prefer to know whether our travellers are in good health and if they have any pre-existing health issues. Given that this program is 21 days and filled with hikes and long days, the only criterion to meet is keeping up with the group.
We do organise the Letter of Invitation for Turkmenistan for our groups.
After we receive the LOI, our tourists get a visa at the border when they pay the corresponding fees.
