Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kigali

    You'll land at Kigali International Airport where your driver guide meets you. After dropping luggage at the hotel, the day involves checking out Mount Kigali for views across the city, stopping by a traditional milk bar, and visiting Richard Kant House. From there you'll walk through a neighborhood market and local arts workshops before heading to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Rwandan lunch and coffee fit in along the way. The tour wraps around 2:30 pm at the Memorial, though you can stay until 5 pm or head back to your hotel earlier if you prefer.

  2. Day 2

    Kigali to Nyungwe

    Traveling from Kigali toward Nyungwe, you'll stop at Kamegeri's Rock and the National Museum of Rwanda to learn about the country's history. Later you reach Nyungwe and check into your guesthouse. In the late afternoon, a scenic drive takes you through tea plantations where you can see how Rwanda's tea landscape looks. You'll settle in for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Nyungwe

    Breakfast comes early at 4:45 am before heading into Nyungwe's forests for chimp trekking. You'll search for these primates in their natural habitat. Following the trek, the Canopy Walkway lets you walk 50 meters above the forest floor across 200 meters, where you can spot primates and birds from above. You'll visit tea plantations and talk with local farmers, then drive to Rusizi for lunch and free time before staying overnight.

    Rusizi to Karongi

    The drive from Rusizi takes you to Karongi, a quiet spot on the lakeside. You'll explore Napoleon's Hut to see the region's past, then head to the Amahoro Islands for lunch featuring fried Kivu fish and potatoes with cold drinks. Swimming in Lake Kivu is an option if you want. The evening brings you to your hotel in Karongi.

    Karongi to Musanze

    Heading from Karongi to Musanze, you'll drive through scenic country with nice views along the route. In the afternoon, you reach the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, each with different character. Spend time taking in the calm landscapes and quiet feel of these connected lakes. You'll check into your Musanze hotel for the night.

  6. Day 6

    Musanze

    You'll eat early at 5:30 am, then reach park headquarters by 7:00 am to start mountain gorilla trekking through the forest. After returning to rest and clean up, you visit the Karisoke Research Center to learn what goes into gorilla conservation. Later in the day, you head to Kinigi cultural village for traditional Rwandan dance performances. An overnight stay at a recommended hotel follows.

    Transferring to Rubavu (Gisenyi city), you'll check out the town's local feel. A visit to Rubona fishing village shows how local fishermen live and work daily. You'll see the area's hot springs, an interesting geological feature, and have the option to swim in Lake Kivu. The day also covers banana and sorghum beer production as part of Rwanda's food and drink culture. Your hotel in Rubavu is where you'll stay.

Coffee plantations in Gakenke District let you learn about Rwanda's coffee production. Time at local markets and the arts market helps you find souvenirs. A farewell dinner at a recommended restaurant comes next, followed by a bye-bye party with traditional Rwandan dancers and singers celebrating the trip.

    Amazing experience and super organized tour !!! I booked a 9 days tour with African Travellers ltd and it was amazing. I cam with my family friend and We visited different attractions in Rwanda.   • Payment information
    • For any tour departing before February 11th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after February 11th, 2026, a minimum payment of 50% is required to confirm your booking with African Travellers. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
