Itinerary
- Day 1
Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
You'll arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport where your transfer driver meets you for the drive to your hotel in Moshi. Once you settle in, the rest of the day is yours to do as you like. Some people relax at the hotel while others take a taxi into town to check out the local area. That evening, there's a briefing session to go over what to expect during your trek.

- Day 2
Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp
Head out early to Londorossi Gate for national park registration and paperwork. From there, you'll drive roughly 15 km on a rough track that winds into the rainforest where your trek officially starts. The moderately steep trail takes you through dense forest for about 2 and a half hours until you reach Big Tree Camp. An armed ranger will be with your group for the first two days.

Big Tree Camp to Shira Camp 2
Today you trek through thick rainforest on a narrow trail that gradually opens up into heath and moorland as the elevation increases. After crossing Shira Ridge, you'll arrive at Shira Camp 1 around lunchtime, and from here you can see Mt Meru and the Rift Valley spreading out below. Later, you'll continue climbing about 400 meters over the next three hours to reach Shira Camp 2 where you'll spend the night. If the weather cooperates, you might catch sunset views of Kibo's peak.

- Day 4
Shira Camp 2 to Barranco Camp
You'll climb roughly 740 meters today while keeping your sleeping elevation only slightly higher than yesterday, which helps your body adjust to the altitude. The trek takes you above the Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower through an alpine desert where vegetation becomes sparse. As you continue, you'll walk through the wide Barranco Valley with its distinctive lobelia plants and giant senecios. After 6 to 7 hours of trekking, you'll reach Barranco Camp, which many say is one of the most beautiful spots on the mountain.

- Day 5
Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
This day involves plenty of ups and downs along the trail, and it includes the steepest section of the entire route, the Barranco Wall, where you might need to use your hands to pull yourself up at certain points. Your guides are there to help you through the toughest spots. Once you've conquered the wall, the path follows along the mountain ridge where you'll see fantastic views of Kibo's southern glacier and the summit. You should reach Karanga Camp by lunchtime.

- Day 6
Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
You'll walk through alpine desert terrain for about 3 to 4 hours and arrive at Barafu Camp, which sits at 4,640 meters. Spend the afternoon stretching out and taking it easy to prepare for tonight's big push. Have an early dinner so you can try to get some rest before your guides wake you around midnight to start the final climb to the summit.

- Day 7
Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
After a hot cup of tea and light snack, you'll start climbing around midnight with torches lighting the way across frozen lava ash. The trek to Stella Point on the crater rim takes 5 to 7 hours. From there, spend another 1 to 2 hours walking along the crater ridge until you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters and see the sunrise from Africa's highest point. After photos and a break, you'll head back down to Barafu Camp by midday for lunch and rest. Later, you'll descend about 3 hours further to Mweka Camp.

- Day 8
Mweka Camp to Moshi
After breakfast, your mountain crew holds a traditional farewell ceremony to honor your achievement. Then you'll make a gentle 2 to 3 hour walk through rainforest down to Mweka Gate where your driver is waiting. From there it's a transfer back to the hotel where you can take a warm shower. The rest of the day is completely free for you to rest or celebrate.

- Day 9
Departure from Moshi
Following breakfast, you'll be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home. If you'd prefer, you can also arrange to stay longer and add on a safari adventure elsewhere in Tanzania instead of leaving today.
