    Nicola

    Asked on January 16th, 2026

are there any other fees that are not in your tour package?

    Price / Availability
    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

The upfront price that you have to pay prior to your arrival in Bhutan is USD 1,210.00 per person based on a twin-sharing accommodation. If you require a private single room, it is USD 1,300.00 per person.

A 20% deposit is required at the time of booking and the remaining balance is due 60 days prior to the tour start date.

The local payment of USD 500 per person is to be paid in cash upon arrival. This fee is known as the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), sometimes called as the Government Fee. The fee is USD 100 per night per person, so for the duration of 5 nights, it is USD 500 per person. It goes straight to the government for tourism infrastructure development, free education and health care, protection of exceptional forest cover and maintaining Bhutan's status as a carbon-neutral country.

The visa fee of $40 per person is already included in the price. To process Bhutan visa, both visa fee and the SDF must be paid in advance to get the visa approved. We pay the SDF on your behalf and collect it from you in USD cash upon arrival.

Alternatively, you can apply for visa directly online and pay the visa fee and SDF by yourself directly to the Department of Immigration. In this case, we will deduct the visa fee from the upfront price.

The only cost not included in the price is the entry fees for monuments and sacred sites, as these are paid on-site only if you decide to visit.

If you visit all the major monuments and sacred sites mentioned in the itinerary, the total entry fees would be approximately USD 70 per person.

    • N

      Nicola

      TravelerWritten January 2026

so just to clarify SDF $500 and Visa fee $40 are included in your tour fee $1210 ??
      please confirm my understanding

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

Visa fee of $40 per person is already included in the tour cost $1210.00 per person. This cost is to be paid upfront before you arrive in Bhutan. As explained earlier, 20% deposit required at the time of booking the tour. The remaining 80% balance is due 60 days before the tour start date.

The SDF of $500 per person is NOT included in the $1210.00. Please see on the tour booking page where this $500 per person is clearly mentioned as local payment.

You have to bring the SDF $500 per person in cash and pay us upon arrival.

For the sake of clarification, the total cost for 2 person is ($1210 + $500) x 2 = USD 3,420.00

    • N

      Nicola

      TravelerWritten January 2026

also the tour includes all the meals and hotels, right? just want to make sure before I book the trip

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

If you share a room with 2 beds (twin-sharing), the total price is USD 3,420.00

If you prefer to have your own single rooms, the single supplement is $90.00. For 2 single rooms, it will $90 x 2 = $180.00. Therefore, the total cost for 2 single rooms is $3,420 + $180 = USD 3,600.00

      INCLUSIONS:
      • USD 40.00 one-time Visa Fee & Processing.
      • USD 100.00 per person per night Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) which is to be paid in cash upon arrival in Bhutan.
      • 2 x 5 nights twin-sharing room or single rooms based on your choice at the time of booking.
      • All meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner)
      • Round-trip airport transfers
      • Dedicated land transportation as per the itinerary for the whole duration.
      • All sightseeing
      • Licensed and experienced English-speaking private guide.
      • A set of national costumes for each participant. The costume should be returned at the end of the tour.
      • Bottled mineral water in the car
      • All applicable government taxes for the services listed above.

      EXCLUSIONS:
      • Flights
      • Travel insurance (optional)
      • Entry fees to parks, museums and sacred sites. The total entry fee will be about USD 80.00 per person if you visit all the museums and sacred sites.
      • Emergency evacuation
      • Alcoholic beverages, bar bills
      • Laundry services, telephone call charges
      • Tip to guide and driver.

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

Yes, only cash is accepted. The guide will help you to get the entry tickets.

You can exchange the currency at the bank inside the airport or in town. The exchange rate is same. You can also withdraw local currency from the ATM but they charged a fee of Nu.300 per transaction.

Some shops will accept credit card but there will be payment processing fee ranging from 3.5% to 3.82%.

    • N

      TravelerWritten January 2026

so the exchange place in town does not have better rate than the airport?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

If you exchange at the bank, the rate is same at both airport and town. If you exchange at some shops, they will offer slightly higher rates.

    • W

      Wayne

      TravelerWritten January 2026

Does that mean places , monasteries and temples would be closed because of the festival?

    • Bhutan Acorn Tours & TravelOperatorWritten January 2026

The National Museum usually remains closed during the festival but you can visit it after the hike to Tiger's Nest. So Tiger's Nest and other monuments will be open.

If your flight arrives by noon or early afternoon, you can see the festival on the day you arrive (between 30 Mar and 2 April). If your flight arrives later in the afternoon or evening, we have to cutomize the itinerrary to accommodate the festival. We can customize without skipping activities.

As of now, we do not have any group bookings for this tour around your travel dates. However, we will be happy to operate the tour even if you are the only participant. You can be assured that we will make every effort to ensure your safety, comfort, and a memorable experience throughout the journey. The other 6-day tour has 2 nights in Thimphu and does not cover Phobjikha Valley. Whereas the tour you choosing has only 1 night in Thimphu and has 1 night in Phobjikha Valley. If you are an active traveller and loves hiking, this tour may be a good choice for you. It is not possible to get visa on arrival as it has to be arranged prior to your arrival in Bhutan. To make things easier, we process visas for all our guests. To process the visa in advance, the Visa fee of US$40.00 per person and the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100.00 per person per night must be paid in advance. The SDF portion must be paid to us locally in USD cash upon your arrival in Bhutan. Regarding the luggage storage, you can safely store them at the hotel in Paro where you will stay your last 2 nights. Our guide will help you with this.
