A very well paced tour. Usually 3 to 7 people in the group. All tour guides were excellent. The hotel I stayed at was very good, four stars. I would recommend everyone bring a good camera as the various tours take you to very photogenic spots. I also brought a tripod so I could do some night photography during the stargazing.

The “6-days trip to Easter Island” tour was great! The itinerary, communications, planning and organization, hotel, transportation, and tour guide were wonderful and superb! 4 to 5 days is the ideal amount of time I recommend to see everything on the island at a relaxed pace, especially at the less visited tourist or archaeological sites or to have an extra day on the island in case weather may affect spending time outside touring the sites. Marilda of Signature DMC did a magnificent job finding a great hotel for me on short notice when I booked this trip 9 days prior to my desired trip start date during the busy tourist season in December on Easter Island or Rapa Nui as the local island natives call it. Marilda was prompt and clear in her communications with me during the process leading up to and during the trip. She found me a great room at Inaki Uhi Hotel in the center of the main town on Easter Island where it is walking distance to almost everything. Ivonne who was the owner of that hotel was very accommodating and managed and maintained the hotel in great condition. Hotel staff were also great. The tour itinerary was exactly as planned and described with a great tour guide named Luis of the tour agency Easter Island: Mahinatur. Luis was very knowledgeable and spoke English very well. There were 7 other people in my tour group. He took us to all the historical, archaeological, and must see sights on the entire island. I highly recommend him. The only problem I had was when we went to visit Ahu Tongariki at 10:00 am in the morning during the first day of the tour, the sun was above and behind the moai when I was facing the front side of the moai that made the detailed features of the moai very dark and difficult to see in my photos. I had to return a second time to this site two days later at 3:30 pm in the afternoon with a separate private tour guide to have the sun behind me and shining the front side of the moai to get much better detailed images of the front of the moai in my photos. I attached the 2 photos for comparison. My suggestion for those like me who want to get detailed images of the front side of the moai at Ahu Tongariki is to have the visit scheduled in the afternoon for best results. Everything else in the tour was great!

Best tour companies for Chile tours
Looking at these tour companies operating in Patagonia, travelers have shared some really positive feedback about their experiences. Signature Tours gets consistent praise for running smooth trips, and their guides Kevin and Ariel keep coming up in reviews for being both friendly and really knowing their stuff. For those wanting more flexibility with their itinerary, Unu Raymi has been great at adapting - particularly James, who's quick to respond and helps people shape trips around what they want to see and do. Their guides Francisco and Christobal bring the W Trek routes alive with local knowledge and genuine enthusiasm for the region. OneSeed Expeditions takes a different approach with smaller groups, which our travelers say makes a big difference when you're out on the trails. Their guides Roberto, Jorge and Sofia bring strong expertise but keep things personal - you're not just another face in a big crowd. They've found that sweet spot between professional guiding and creating a comfortable, friendly atmosphere that works well in Patagonia's rugged landscape. What makes these companies stand out is how they balance structure and flexibility, expert knowledge and personal service. The guides aren't just showing you around - they're sharing their deep connection to these landscapes while making sure everyone's looked after properly on the trails.
Best places to start your Chile tour
Santiago serves as the main gateway with 40 of our travelers starting their Chile trip there, while Puerto Natales follows with 22 departures - it's particularly good if you're focusing on Torres del Paine. Calama, Punta Arenas and San Pedro de Atacama fill out the other popular starting points, giving you good access to both desert and Patagonian sites. Our booking patterns show you'll want to lock in your plans about 3.5 months (107 days) ahead, especially if you're traveling during peak times - December through February for Patagonia or June through August for Atacama. Our travelers often mention how the improved domestic flight network makes it easier than ever to experience both regions. They love the contrast between Santiago's sophisticated wine scene and Patagonia's wild landscapes. For the altitude conscious, we suggest taking a day to adjust in San Pedro de Atacama (2,400m) before heading up to spots like the Tatio Geysers (4,320m).

Best time to visit Chile
- Winter 2025 / 2026
The Torres del Paine 'O' Circuit really comes into its own during winter months June through August - you'll find fewer people on the trails and raw, pristine landscapes. Our 8-day route takes you across 50-meter suspension bridges over Grey Glacier and to camp spots right beside Dickson Glacier. The guides are brilliant at pointing out Magellanic woodpeckers in the lenga forests. Winter also brings perfect conditions to San Pedro de Atacama, where night skies are at their clearest. You can spot nebulae, star clusters and distant galaxies through professional telescopes. Many of our clients combine both regions in winter, starting in Santiago's wine valleys before heading south to trek the French Valley and finally north to catch the Tatio Geysers steaming in the dawn light.

- Spring 2026
September kicks off spring in Chile and opens up some fantastic hiking routes. The Torres del Paine W Trek is particularly good as wildflowers carpet the ground and baby guanacos take their first steps. Our 5-day version hits all the key spots - from the Base Torres climb to boat rides across Lake Pehoé. The Atacama tours work really well too, with pleasant temperatures that make exploring Moon Valley's rock formations and watching flamingos at the salt flats much more comfortable. We're seeing lots of travelers combine different regions in spring; you can easily mix vineyard visits in Casablanca Valley with desert exploration and also Patagonian hiking. The mountain trails are quieter than summer but you'll still get stable enough weather for activities like kayaking near Grey Glacier.

- Summer 2026
Summer brings long daylight hours to Patagonia from December through February, perfect for making the most of our full circuit treks. The Torres del Paine routes take you through old-growth forests, to starlit camping spots and over the challenging John Garner Pass - the views of the Southern Ice Field seem endless from up there. The W Trek variations are proving really popular; you can spend extra time in the French Valley watching massive chunks of ice crash down from the hanging glaciers. Around Santiago and the Lake District, we've got tours mixing winery visits with outdoor activities like boat trips on Todos Los Santos Lake with volcanoes rising all around. The Atacama tours run year-round, though summer nights are warmer for those incredible stargazing sessions under the world's clearest skies.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall transforms Chile's landscapes from March through May. The lenga forests in Patagonia turn deep red and gold, giving our O Circuit treks a completely different character. Our guides time the tough sections like Paso John Garner carefully to hit the best weather windows. The W Trek is getting more popular in autumn since the winds calm down and you get these incredible photo opportunities with the changing colors. Our Epic Patagonia tours work really well now - you can do glacier hikes and spot wildlife with fewer people around. Up in Atacama, the desert tours benefit from mild temperatures that are perfect for long walks through Moon Valley and visits to high-altitude lagoons where flamingos gather before winter sets in.
