- Day 1
Kathmandu to Tumlingtar to Num
After breakfast, you'll fly to Tumlingtar where your trek crew meets you at the airstrip. From there, take a moderate walk through local villages and forested mountain terrain. The path leads you up to Num, a village perched on a ridgeline with views dropping away on both sides.

Landmarks Tumlingtar Num - Day 2
Num to Seduwa
This day involves some serious elevation changes. You'll descend steeply through forest and terraced farmland down to Barun River, then face an equally steep climb up the opposite side. Once you cross into Makalu Barun National Park and handle the permit registration, you'll set up camp at the village's upper edge.

Seduwa to Tashi Gaon
Head up the ridge that runs between Ipsuwa Khola and Kasuwa Khola, moving through quiet settlements and past paddy fields. The walk continues until you reach Tashi Gaon, a distinctive village where you'll camp for the night.

Landmarks Tashi Gaon - Day 4
Tashi Gaon to Khongma
Climb through forest cover until you hit a stream crossing, then follow the trail as it moves onto a ridge. The path steepens considerably, passing a kharka where herds graze, then continues up rough stone stairs and past small lakes. After reaching the ridge top, you'll drop down a short way to Khongma.

Landmarks Khongma - Day 5
Khongma to Dobate
Make your way toward Shipton La pass, first passing Kalo Pokhari lake before crossing Keke La at 4,170m/13,681ft. The views from here take in Chamlang, Peak 6, and Peak 7. Then descend through the valley system down to Dobate.

Landmarks Kalo Pokhari Keke La Chamlang - Day 6
Dobate to Yangri Kharka
Walk through rhododendron forest heading toward Barun River and into the upper valley. The first couple hours involve steep, difficult terrain, but then the walk becomes more pleasant as you gradually gain height. By evening, you'll reach Yangri Kharka sitting at the valley's base.

Landmarks Yangri Kharka - Day 7
Yangri Kharka to Langmale Kharka
Trek through the valley passing yak pastures, thick forests, and boulder-strewn terrain with valley walls rising dramatically above. Pass through Merek and continue higher up the valley with solid Himalayan views surrounding you. You'll camp at Langmale Kharka.

Landmarks Merek Langmale Kharka - Day 8
Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp
Trek from Langmale Kharka up to Shershong on relatively flat terrain, then onward to Makalu Base Camp. As you approach Shershong, Mount Makalu appears on the horizon. The trail crosses icy glaciers and snow-covered ground, and once at camp, you'll have the full Himalayan panorama to take in.

- Day 9
Makalu Base Camp
You'll stay at Base Camp today, a rocky barren spot with the large Barun Glacier stretching beyond. From camp, you can see the south face of Makalu directly, plus the complete view of Everest and Lhotse. Spend the day exploring nearby lakes and glaciers, and take time to mark this accomplishment.

- Day 10
Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka
Start your descent from Base Camp with a final look at Makalu. Head back through Shershong, then Langmale Kharka, Merek, and work your way down the valley to Yangri Kharka where you'll camp.

Yangri Kharka to Dobate
Descend through rock-fall sections and green forest cover, following Barun's river banks as you head toward Dobate. The terrain gradually becomes less steep as you work your way downstream.

Landmarks Barun River - Day 12
Dobate to Khongma Danda
Leave Dobate and climb steeply through fir and rhododendron forests to Mumbuk. Along the route, you'll cross Keke La, then Tutu La (also called Shipton's Pass), and Kauma La. After these crossings, descend to Khongma Danda.

Landmarks Seduwa - Day 14
Seduwa to Tumlingtar
Trek through lush forest from Seduwa back to Num, then shift gears and drive to Khatbari. From there, continue driving along the road toward Tumlingtar. The whole journey takes about 5 hours between walking and driving.

Landmarks Num Khatbari - Day 15
Tumlingtar to Kathmandu
Take a flight from Tumlingtar back to Kathmandu. Spend the day relaxing at your hotel, catching up on rest, and connecting with people back home. You've earned the downtime after weeks in the mountains.
