Itinerary
- Day 1
New York City to Niagara Falls
You'll leave New York City and head north through the Delaware Water Gap area where the scenery really opens up. By midday you'll get to Watkins Glen State Park to see the canyon and waterfalls (or Montour Falls if it's winter). The drive continues past Seneca Lake, and you'll arrive at Niagara Falls in the late afternoon. Once there, you can walk around and see the American Falls and check out Goat Island and Luna Island. Later in the evening you'll watch the illuminated falls light up once it gets dark.

- Day 2
Niagara Falls to Clifton, New Jersey
You'll wake up to the sound of the falls and get right up close to Horseshoe Falls. Depending on the season, you'll either take the Maid of the Mist boat ride from May through October or head down into the Scenic Tunnels for an underground view from November to April. Around midday you'll start driving south and stop at an outlet mall if you want to shop a bit. After that you'll continue to Clifton, New Jersey, and check in at La Quinta Inn & Suites for the night.

- Day 3
Clifton to Philadelphia to Washington, DC
You'll leave New Jersey early and head to Philadelphia. There you'll see the Liberty Bell and Constitution Square and walk around Congress Hall. From there, Elfreth's Alley is worth a walk since it's the oldest street still occupied in America. You'll take a panoramic bus tour of the city and then climb the Rocky Steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Later you'll head out to Lancaster County for a buggy ride through Amish farm country and check out the marketplace. The drive continues south and you'll reach Washington, DC by evening.

- Day 4
Washington, DC to New York City
Start your morning at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial by the Tidal Basin, especially nice if cherry blossoms are in bloom. After that you'll cross into Arlington National Cemetery to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visit the Kennedy gravesite. You'll tour Capitol Hill to see the Capitol building and White House. During the afternoon you'll spend time at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum looking at historic aircraft and spacecraft. Before you leave, you'll walk through several memorials including the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and the Korean War and Vietnam Veterans Memorials. You'll head out in the late afternoon to drive back to New York City, arriving in the evening.
