Tokyo to Kanazawa
Pick up your JR Pass in the morning, then head out on a bullet train to Kanazawa in the afternoon. This 17th-century castle town was once Japan's wealthiest region and developed into a major cultural hub. Your evening is open to explore on your own or join the optional group dinner.

Kanazawa
Start by walking through Kanazawa's well-preserved geisha district, then move on to Kenroku-en, one of Japan's three best gardens. From there, you'll take a walk through the historic Nagamachi samurai district. You have options to visit Kanazawa Castle by the gardens, check out local museums, learn about traditional crafts, or browse the seafood market.

Takayama
Explore Hida No Sato, a traditional folk village with thatched-roof houses and rice fields, then walk around the old town streets lined with sake breweries and local craft shops. The rest of your day is free. You can hunt for traces of feudal Japan, visit markets, or rent a bike to cycle out into the countryside.

Takayama to Hiroshima
Take the bullet train to Hiroshima. Visit the Peace Park and Museum to learn about the atomic bomb's history. The large park has memorials throughout, and a flame burns as a symbol of hope for a world without nuclear weapons. A tram ride through the city will get you to the Peace Park.

Hiroshima to Miyajima
