- Days 8-10
Kyoto
After a 2-hour train ride to Kyoto, start with the golden Kinkaku-ji pavilion before the crowds arrive at 10am. What people love about 2-week Japan tours
- Discover Japan
We just finished this tour and I wanted to chime in to say we had a GREAT time. Our guide was amazing and knowledgeable, and it was perfect for first timers who felt overwhelmed trying to plan on our own. Ages in our group ranged from 30-75, and we got along smashingly. We averaged 17k steps per day and saw so much! We always got 4-6 suggestions for meals and our free time, and Aska (the guide) would take suggestions too. So if you were into a particular food, had an allergy, wanted to hike, or wanted to see art, she could point you in the right direction. We had great camaraderie in our group and everyone was supportive of having an amazing trip. Aska provided cultural, historical, and social information in addition to getting us around towns and cities—she also scaffolded us to get around on our own.
- Simply Japan
The tour provided a good overview of the history and culture of Japan. The second day of the tour was a free day in Tokyo, and we left Tokyo the following morning. Although the tour guide offered an optional tour in the morning of day two, I would have preferred a second day of organized activity in Tokyo. There is so much to see and do, and the Metro is difficult to navigate without the ability to read or speak Japanese. I am not an early riser and missed many of the breakfast buffets. The diversity and quality of the food served at the ones I did attend was excellent with one exception. The breakfast buffet at the Kanzashi Tokyo Asakusa hotel, the first stop on the tour, was limited and did not vary from day to day. I stayed at a comparable hotel one minute down the street (the Monday Asakusa hotel) and found the breakfast buffet far superior. The tour guide (Santi) was personable, always pleasant, always helpful, and always patient. He was knowledgable and answered an unending stream of questions from me throughout the tour. Santi interacted easily with the entire tour group, understood the locations we visited, and was very familiar with the different modes of transportation in Japan. He navigated the Metro with ease ! Purchasing all transportation tickets beforehand and placing them in an envelope in the order to be used was especially helpful. I will be 74 years of age in February 2026 and the trip was more strenuous than I expected. I really appreciated an occasional free day because it allowed me to rest and recuperate. The group members interacted well with each other, and the two-week tour was free from any friction or disagreement. I enjoyed the experience, and the Simply Japan tour will be the highlight of my year ! Edward Sullivan (Tour Dates: 11/26/25 - 12/9/25)
