  I'd recommend this route to anyone traveling between Fes and Marrakech who doesn't want to waste the journey on a simple transfer. The extra days turn a long distance into one of the most memorable parts of the trip. We originally thought of this as a way to get from Fes to Marrakech while fitting in the Sahara. It ended up being much more than a transfer. I particularly enjoyed the change in scenery. Leaving Fes behind, the landscape gradually became more mountainous and then much more remote. We had several stops along the way, and I liked being able to take things at our own pace rather than following a fixed group schedule. Merzouga was obviously the big moment. Seeing the dunes in person was impressive, but what stayed with me was the silence. We spent some time just sitting in the sand before heading to the camp, and it was one of the calmest moments of our whole holiday. The Atlas Mountains were another part I really enjoyed. I'm more of a scenery-and-photography person than someone who wants to visit museums all day, so having so much of the journey surrounded by mountains, valleys and open landscapes suited me perfectly. There were also plenty of little conversations and local stories along the way that made the trip feel less like sightseeing and more like actually discovering the country.Show more

  We just finished this trip from Fes to Marrakech, and it was honestly one of the nicest parts of our Morocco vacation. We had originally planned to travel between the two cities more directly, but we're really glad we chose to go through the mountains and desert instead. The landscapes were constantly changing. We went through the Atlas Mountains, small villages and beautiful valleys before reaching the desert. I enjoyed the road more than I expected, especially the little stops along the way where we could stretch our legs, take photos and have a coffee. Merzouga was the big highlight for us. The dunes were incredible, and watching the sunset from the sand was one of those moments that pictures simply don't capture. The evening at the camp was relaxed and fun, and getting up early for the sunrise was absolutely worth it. Our driver also made a big difference. He was friendly, patient and knew when to give us information and when to simply let us enjoy the scenery. We never felt rushed, which made the four days much more enjoyable. By the time we arrived in Marrakech, it felt like we'd experienced much more than just a transfer between two cities. If you're planning to travel from Fes to Marrakech, I would definitely recommend taking this route. It takes longer, but you get the mountains, the desert and so many beautiful landscapes along the way. For us, the journey was the destination.Show more

  I’m usually not the type of person who enjoys organized tours. I prefer to travel independently and figure things out as I go. But for this part of Morocco, I decided to let someone else handle the driving, and honestly, it was the right choice. The route from Fes to Marrakech is incredible. We went from the Atlas Mountains to small villages, then into the dry desert landscapes and finally to the Sahara. I kept thinking, “How can the scenery change this much in one day?” What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed the road itself. We weren't constantly stopping at major attractions. Sometimes we simply pulled over because there was a beautiful view, had a coffee, took a few photos and continued. Those little moments made the journey feel relaxed. Merzouga was obviously a highlight. The dunes were much bigger than I had imagined, and seeing the sunset from the top of one was worth the entire journey. The desert camp was comfortable, the dinner was good, and the quietness after everyone settled down was something I really appreciated. I also have to mention our driver. He wasn't the kind of guide who talks nonstop. He gave us information when we wanted it and otherwise let us enjoy the scenery. That suited me perfectly. By the time we reached Marrakech, I realized that I had enjoyed the journey just as much as the destination. If you're traveling from Fes to Marrakech and have a few extra days, I'd definitely take this route. It's a much more interesting way to make the journey, and the Sahara is the kind of place you should experience at least once.Show more
