  • Day 1

    Casablanca to Chefchaouen

    Visit Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca early at 8:30 AM before the crowds arrive. Drive 4 hours to the Blue City with a stop in Rabat to see the Oudaya Kasbah. Get some motion sickness pills for the mountain roads to Chefchaouen. Spend your evening walking through the blue-painted medina.

    Chefchaouen to Fes

    Explore Chefchaouen in the morning. "The blue streets are best photographed before 10 AM when the light is soft and crowds are thin." Stop at Volubilis Roman ruins on your way to Fes.     Fes

    Fes to Merzouga Desert

    Get ready for a long drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Visit Ifrane, known as "Little Switzerland." Look for Barbary macaques in the cedar forests. Bring carrots if you want to feed them. Get to Merzouga for a sunset camel ride. A visitor notes: "Even in warm seasons, bring warm layers. Desert nights can drop to 40°F (4°C)."

    Merzouga to Dades Valley

    Dades Valley to Marrakech

  • Day 1

    Casablanca to Chefchaouen

    Start your day at Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca at 8:30 AM before the crowds show up. Take a 4-hour drive to Rabat for lunch and visit the Udayas Kasbah and Hassan Tower. Then head to Chefchaouen another 3 hours away. "The drive through the Rif Mountains was stunning, but bring motion sickness pills if you're sensitive to winding roads."

    Volubilis and Fes

    Leave Chefchaouen early and drive 3 hours to Volubilis. Walk the Roman ruins with a guide but watch your step on the slick stones. Visit Bab Mansour gate in Meknes before reaching Fes. "The local guide in Fes was fabulous and the accommodations lovely."

    Fes Medina

    Spend the full day in Fes with a local guide. Begin at the Royal Palace gates and work your way into the medieval medina. Visit the tanneries first thing to avoid strong smells later in the day.     Fes to Merzouga Desert

    Get ready for a 7-hour drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as Morocco's "Little Switzerland" and look for Barbary apes in the cedar forests.     Desert to Ouarzazate
