  2. Day 2

    Longyearbyen

Start the morning with a wheeled-cart dog-sled ride through Advent Valley using a team of huskies. Your local guide will help you harness the dogs before setting out toward the old Northern Lights research station, and you'll watch for reindeer, Arctic foxes, and birds as you travel deeper into Endalen past the abandoned Gruve 5 Mine. The afternoon is free to explore Longyearbyen on your own, maybe stopping by the Svalbard Museum or taking a walk along the water. Around 5:30pm, check out Taubanesentralen, the old cableway central building that's been preserved since the 1980s. The original machinery is still there, and the hillside spot gives you great views out over Adventdalen and the town.

  3. Day 3

    Longyearbyen

You'll do a four-hour hike up Blomsterdalshoegda, climbing about 1,050 feet to reach the mountain ridge. The route crosses soft tundra where your guide points out Arctic plants and reindeer, then gets rockier as you approach the summit with views over Advent Bay and glacial mountains. On the way down, look for ptarmigan and Arctic foxes. Before heading back to Longyearbyen, you'll stop by the Global Seed Vault built into the mountainside (closed to visitors, but your guide explains what it does). Around 4pm, walk 20 minutes to Huset, a mid-20th-century mining house that used to serve as a post office and cinema. Learn about how it was central to community life, then try some Arctic-inspired food and alcohol-free drinks crafted by a sommelier.

  4. Day 4

    Longyearbyen

Board a hybrid-electric catamaran for a full-day fjord trip through Isfjord toward Billefjorden and the Nordenski?ldbreen glacier. Early in the season, parts of the fjord may still have ice edges where the crew uses silent electric power to move quietly, which is ideal for spotting Arctic seals, walruses, guillemots, puffins, and possibly a polar bear. You'll see the blue glacier wall and pass Skansbukta bay. If weather allows, you might spot the abandoned Soviet mining town Pyramiden in the distance. Lunch is served on board where there's a café and bar. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax or walk around Longyearbyen.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch (Light lunch served on board)

    Included Activities

    • Full-day catamaran cruise through Isfjord toward Nordenskiöldbreen glacier
    • Arctic wildlife viewing (seals, walruses, birdlife, potential polar bear sightings)

  5. Day 5

    Longyearbyen

Head to the harbour for a private fjord cruise on a sturdy Polarcirkel boat through Isfjord. You'll get proper equipment like goggles, a life jacket, and overalls to explore sites tied to Svalbard's mining past, from old Norwegian and Soviet operations to bird cliffs (active in May through July). Hot drinks are on board. Weather permitting, you'll land at Hiorthhamn, a short-lived mining settlement now sitting abandoned in the tundra. Back at the hotel, grab lunch before heading to Coal Mine 3. Put on a helmet and headlamp to walk through the tunnels with an expert guide explaining miners' lives. Deep underground, you'll experience total darkness, which really drives home what working in the remote Arctic underground was like. This evening, drive about 20 minutes into the quiet Advent Valley for a wilderness dinner at Camp Barentz. The camp serves homemade reindeer bidos (traditional Sámi stew), campfire coffee, and dessert. After eating, sit around the open fire while hosts share stories about High Arctic life and talk about the region's most famous resident, the polar bear.

Walking the Fjords was fabulous, the scenery magnificent & our hosts Anders & Bård were exceptional. Our group had Bård as our guide he was informative & whilst walking he always would walk back & check on the slower walkers. The accomodation at both Nes Gard & Fjåerland Fjorstove Hotel was great. I loved the quaint little rooms with sloping attic style ceilings. Anders has converted rooms that perviously housed farm animals into an underground wine bar & a bathroom attached to the breakfast room. Both locations provided exceptional meals with quality wine to compliment the food. I cannot speak highly enough about this trip, it was a wonderful introduction to Norway !!!

Everything about the group experience was fantastic. Small group of 14 made up of 13 English and 3 Australians plus Rob, our guide. He is engaging and knowledgeable on all aspects of nature, history, local culture and extremely competent in mountain guiding. We were accommodated, organised and entertained by Rob each day on tour. The hotel Adler in Villabassa was comfortable and quiet in a small village atmosphere but had exceptional food. Each dinner was fabulous and food varied to showcase the more Austrian location. We found this a great variation on the cuisine we had been enjoying in other Italian regions prior to our hiking week. The staff there were very friendly and engaging at all times. We made use of all Ammenities including the indoor pool and gym after hiking and on the rest day. The highlight of the hotel experience was the traditional meal in the wine cellar. Fabulous ambience, food and wine. Our family cannot recommend this highly enough. We have just completed the week, starting near the end of September. Whilst still warm on the first day, we had first snow later that week

These 6 days of mountain hikes come with breath taking views. As a collective, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the hikes and in our leisure time. I would rate our mountain guide Mike five stars; he was exceptionally knowledgeable and provided great entertainment with various local tales
